Proliferation of fetish and diabolic Igbo movies in the market has been identified as likely factors scaring the Igbo in Diaspora and others from returning home.
The President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Anambra state chapter, Chief Damian Afam Okeke, raised the alarm at the 3rd annual event of the Association of Music and Film Producers and Marketers of Nigeria (AMUFPMAN) tagged A Day to Remember in November 2018.
Okeke, who chaired the occasion, observed that movies on land disputes, fetish and diabolism were portraying the Igbo nation in bad light in the international community and urged producers and marketers to rather showcase giving, hospitality, charity, doggedness and other cultural values Igbo is known for.
He bemoaned that the colonial masters during their missionary activities were the first to paint the African culture as fetish and diabolic, not minding that those cultural and traditional practices were ways of lives, protection, decoration, love, affection and merriment.
On music, the Anambra state chapter President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo urged producers and marketers to emulate the likes of Mike Ejeagha, Osita Osadebe, Celestine Ukwu, Oliver De Coque and other notable African legends by singing, producing and marketing music imbued with moral lessons.
In a brief remark, Stella Okunna, the first female professor of mass communication and dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, advised producers and marketers to champion modifications of African cultures that are anti-women rather than glorifying them.
On his part, the AMUFPMAN’s National Patron, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo, advised the association to remain steadfast and professional as he would always support them.
Earlier, the National President, Association of Music and Film Producers and Marketers of Nigeria (AMUFPMAN), Evang. Mascon Justice Nwasike, disclosed that piracy was the greatest challenge confronting the industry.
Nwasike said although the association had successfully brought some pirates to book through assistance of the Nigeria Copyright Council (NCC) and the police, it still needed the public, the media and the government supports to phase them out completely in order to boost the country’s economy.
The association used the opportunity to present awards to some deserving citizens of the country including Damain Okeke, Umuobiligbo music group, Abuchi Umenwobi, Engr. Charles Nwegwu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu of Umuawulu and others.
Speaking in separate interviews, some of the awardees, Engr. Charles Nwegwu, Chief Abuchi Umenwobi, and Chukwuebuka and Ifeanyi Obiligbo said it would spur them to impact more lives in various ways. https://orientdailynews.com.ng/geopolis/south-east/stop-portraying-igbo-diabolic-evil/lalasticlala seun mynd44 1 Like |
