In this article, our desire is to show some easy ways to make money as a student without interfering with your studies.

Congratulations to you as you have made it to the University. This is really a huge reason for you to be happy as you have achieved something most of your mates could only dream of achieving.

Now that you’re in school another question you may have on your mind is: How to make money as a student in Nigeria?

This question has and will always be in the mind of any future-minded student who knows that student life is totally different from life after school.

Apart from the reason given above, students usually find out too late that the money given to them by parents/sponsors is usually not enough to sustain one throughout the semester.

But asking parents for money for those extra is simply inconvenient because they had already provided money for things such as school fees and student accommodation.

It is, therefore, common to see students looking for ways to make money.

Some of which are also used to take care of planned and unplanned daily expenses in school which may include photocopying of school materials and payment of membership dues of student bodies to belong to and many other things.

Making extra money in addition to what was given to them by parents/sponsors will help lessen the burden on their sponsors, and most importantly help the students keep savings.

Besides applying for scholarships and grants, students can legitimately make money on campus using any of the following ideas.

Student Ambassador
The best way to make money while in school is to become a Student Ambassador with Kwaba. This is a new property listing website that caters to the accommodation needs of students.

This opportunity open to everyone who can refer other students to pick an accommodation through you. All you have to do is make out to engage with students who are looking for off-campus accommodation especially the new students in school.

You get to earn commissions on every successful referral and can even have your next rent paid by Kwaba.

Tutorial Classes
Being knowledgeable in a particular course or courses is a good way of earning some money because with your knowledge you can start a tutoring business while targeting your junior colleagues especially first year students in your department/faculty.

You may choose to hold the classes at weekends and charge the students per class attended. You could also decide to hold this tutorial classes for secondary school students in your area.

In addition, you can also expand your business by solving past question papers making it available to students who are always eager to buy great materials.

Learn a Skill
You can decide to learn a skill and then market that skill to your fellow students. Example of such skills include; Hair dressing, Facial Make Up, Jewelry making with beads, bags and shoes making with beautiful Ankara materials.

Other skills that you could learn are website design/development, phone repairs, laptop repairs etc.

The list here is endless, all you have to do is pick one that you feel more inclined to and develop the skill to a level where you can sell it to others for a fee.

Google and YouTube are great resources to use to enhance your learning. There are a living of people who are earning a living from these skills which they learnt while in school.

Business Centre Management
Business Centres is a business that solves the needs of not just students but even those outside the school environment.

This form of business come in various forms such as Computer services centre, internet cyber café, Beauty/Barbing saloon, Cooking gas refill centre etc.

This venture is sure to rake in enough money to keep independent during your schooling years.

Note that running a full time business centre will definitely distract you from studies unless you get a trustworthy person who could manage the place effectively while you are away.

Agriculture
This is specially aimed at Agric students even though anyone can venture into this type of business.

Channelling the amount of time and effort you put into practicals on the school farm and elsewhere, you could set up a small scale Agro business nearby and attend to it while you attend to your academic work.

If you can utilize your time well, this could be a gold mine for you and could eventually make you an employer of labour.

On the other hand, there are so many online businesses which students can go into to make money while in school. All that is required is a laptop/phone and internet then you’re in business. Such businesses include but not limited to:

Online Registrations
If you have a laptop with internet access, you can help other students with online registrations such as Scholarship applications, School fees payment, etc and then charge a token for the services.

This is really lucrative especially at the beginning of semesters and when there are prospective/new students on campus.

Online Affiliate Marketing
This simply means promoting other people’s (or company’s) products and earning a commission for each sale that you make. You mustn’t even have a website to do this, you can make use of social media.

If you have thousands of virtual friends on Facebook you can actually sell things to your large followers and make money online.

Information Marketing
As you already know, Google is the largest repository of knowledge in the world. This has one disadvantage, the knowledge you get here can be good or bad.

In order to make money from this, all you have to do is look for a niche area in a high demand area then carry out some research on that.

After the research, document your research, publish it as an ebook and do the necessary marketing. This can earn you enough income to keep you sustained as an undergraduate.

Handling Money As a Student.

Planning
As the popular saying goes, if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. You have to plan very well so as not to fail very well. Firstly, choose the business wisely.

In as much as you would want a business that produces the most profit, do not venture into something that has too many competition.

Basically, do a feasibility study and have a business plan, whether formal or informal. Schedule time for your studies and other academic activities while planning any business.

If you decide to get a job, make sure it will give you enough time for your studies.

Promotion
Every business needs promotion for the business to thrive. It doesn’t have to cost you much.

You can simply use cheap posters and fliers, words of mouth through friends, the internet (Forums, Social media, Facebook groups) to promote your business.

You could also walk up to people who might need the service you offer and present a proposal to them.

Money Mangement
Good money management skill is a skill that once acquired will be useful for a lifetime.

Also, in as much as you need to pamper your clients to get them to patronize your products, you need to be smart with your money.

Otherwise, they will owe you till you no longer make enough returns to run your business.

For online businesses, you have to be very careful as there are scammers everywhere.

Focus
Being humble, patient, jovial and courteous to everybody makes your clients fall helplessly in love with your services that they always want to come back for more while bringing along new clients.

Don’t be distracted just work on your self-esteem, set your targets and keep your eyes on the price.

In conclusion, don’t lose focus in your studies which is the major reason why you are in school.

New students or first-year students are not advised to involve themselves in campus businesses. You need to completely focus on your studies and learning about your new environment unless you’re already familiar with the environment.

This list is definitely not exhaustive but we hope that these will guide you in seeking extra income while you are still a student. Always, remember that these skills will always serve you even after school as no knowledge is a waste.
