Africa has produced some wonderful breeds which can be the perfect addiction to your family. here, we take a look at five of the best dog breed from Africa that top the charts, Don’t be surprise that Africa’s considerable and diverse landmass is home to a variety of dog breeds.

1. Rhodesian ridge-back:

Now this is a dog i know so much about i owned two myself, BOLT and KIARA.
Rhodesian ridge-back, previously called African lion hound originally bred to hunt hunt large game including lions. they’re very to be loyal, intelligent and fairly obedient, strong willed (stubborn i know that for a fact, mine were).
They love jogging, seriously, mine would wait at the gate every morning for me to come out so we cold go and they love it
It is essential you socialize and train them, they’re notoriously strong willed and aggressive to strangers

2. Basenji: Basenji, the bark less dogs, Looks familiar right ?(it should be for most Nigerians) the basenji were gotten for Africanis what we call “kaere”, “local dog” in Nigeria were gotten from this breed. Relatively small in size , famous for their twisted tail, high intelligence (very good escape artists), they don’t really bark.
Keep them engaged, they’re really destructive when bored they like chewing on shoes, wood e.t.c

"I want to be very clear about two things"

1. I don’t recommend that people try to raise a guard dog on their own, you should get a professional.
2. I understand why someone would want to raise their own guard dog and I'm here to help those who do.

Having said that, we can start.

nb: Most dog are petty good natural guard dog

1. teach your dog basic obedience: If you have a yard you can work in you should use it for training. He will become more territorial as he learns to obey your commands while working in that area. Be sure to teach basic commands like sit, down, stay, leave it.
2. Part of his more advanced obedience training should include teaching impulse control: When you have a visitor he should sit on command, lie down, then watch as the person comes in; teach impulse control so that he does not have to run over, jump up, and try to play.
3. Run the property boundaries with your dog: You should do this every day at the end of your obedience lessons. Your dog will learn his.......

I have been asked about this particular question by a lot of people and i understand why people would want to get a dog for protection.
