Rotary Club Empowers Widows, Retired Civil Servant by Nwaforj44: 3:33am On Nov 24, 2018
Four persons were beneficiaries of the lofty humanitarian venture of the Rotary Club of Anthony Metropolitan in Lagos, last weekend, as the group, which is noted for poverty alleviation programs, empowered three widows and a retired civil servant.

They were giving brand new grinding machines each to improve on their trade and take care of their families. The joy of the widow of 10 years, Mrs Ayanfe Ojajuni, knew no bounds as the mother of six children received the gift along with Mrs Simiat Oyetunde, who also lost her husband eight years ago.

The District Governor 9110, Mr Kola Shodipo, who presented the machines to the four beneficiaries, stated that the venture was in tandem of what Rotary Club stands for, which is to provide succour to ordinary citizens who cannot afford the materials by themselves.

“What we are doing today is to provide working tools for these individuals that will improve on their activities as traders. As the district governor, who oversees 103 clubs, we have embarked on poverty alleviation projects, health related projects, majorly to kick out Polio in Nigeria and educational projects like the equipping of 10 complete sets of computers in schools. These, among others are what we do at Rotary Club.

“Mrs Simiat Oyetunde is a widow of eight years and has been struggling to feed her four children. Anthony Metropolitan club has provided her with a grinding machine to assist her in making a living and we are set to do more as you can see with the three other beneficiaries,” says Mr Shodipo who added that 300 students were being sponsored in a vocational training in Ikorodu.
