FRESH CRISIS ROCKS TANSIAN UNIVERSITY, OBA
A fresh crisis is rocking a faith-based University in Anambra State, Tansian University, Oba Campus, where the university first took off.

Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, whose property, Ranent Industries, accommodated the university at its inception, had asked the Anambra State High Court, sitting in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State to grant him leave to execute consent judgment between him and the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Rev. Father JohnBosco Akam.

Both parties, according to Chief Ezeonwuka ‘s lawyer, Elo Nwankwo, had in 2010, entered into a consent judgment, that Rev. Father Akam will remit N10m annually to Chief Ezeonwuka on two instalments.

Rev. Father Akam complied with the consent judgment until about two years ago when he defaulted, pleading that he does not have money; but at a time, told Chief Ezeeonwuka that he could not pay again because of dwindling revenue, even when he was busy embarking on building structures.

Consequently, Ezeonwuka went to court to file a motion to compel him to pay or to grant him leave to execute the consent judgment, which Akam’s lawyer filed a motion to counter.

The court presided over by Justice Arinze Akubue, on November 22, 2018, dismissed Akam’s application. With the ruling, the court will now go ahead to hear the motion asking it to grant Ezeonwuka the leave to execute the consent judgement.

Although, Rev. Fr. Akam’s Lawyer, Dr E.S Obioara has appealed the ruling of the Ogidi High Court. Nwankwo said an appeal does not in any way serve as a stay, stressing that they will go ahead with the matter at the Ogidi High Court.

Nwankwo said “the coast is now clear for us to argue our case. He is owing us over N23m. It is a self-inflicted injury. He had the opportunity to pay the debt but he directed the money he supposes to pay his debt to build new structures”.
