Seven birdies and two bogeys pushed Vincent Torgah’s lead to 11-under par (277) to win the Nigeria Masters for a second consecutive time.

The Ghanaian entered the final day tied in second but played an impressive round of golf and looked in command of his game, recording the best round of the day (67) having posted rounds of 72, 69 and 69 during the four-day tournament at Phyton International Golf Club in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

With this victory, Torgah clinches his fourth title of the 2018 West Africa Golf Tour season and claims his second Order of Merit.

Torgah held off a thrilling challenge from Chukwudi Okoro, who started the final round tied for second with Torgah and followed the Ghanaian closely during the eighteen holes, carded a closing 68 to finish runner up at 7-under (281).

Third round leader, Mike Ubi dropped to fourth place of the leaderboard after scoring a final round of 74 and a total of 5 under-pars (283) to end third place, followed by Gift Willy who posted 69 to finish at 3-under (285). The two Nigerians produced some solid golf over the tournament at their home club in Port Harcourt delighting the local supporters.

You are right. I guess weather, and other factors are undermining the records. Also sports is tending towards ads these days. Sports personalities are more interested in ads, money, fashion et al. So striving towards breaking records are rare these days.

I think with golf in West Africa, it has to do with more exposure to modern training methods, golf academies springing up (David Mark has one in Otukpo, some in South Africa, Ghana, Cote D'ivore etc) and these Pros are getting improved sponsorship of sort. There are improvements in sponsorship of competition in West Africa..... Most importantly the "Tiger Woods" effect...
