Before the Champions League match between AEK Athens and Ajax, a fan threw a suspected petrol bomb into the away end.

The match ended 2-0 in favour of Ajax but the main action was off the field.

An AEK fan threw a petrol bomb to the away end of the stadium and it exploded into a flame ball.

Riot police were brought in to try and calm the situation down, but to no avail.

Pictures emerged on social media of fans with blood streaming down their faces being held back by police.

Fans had already been segregated by blocks of empty seats, but that was not enough as clashes broke out between the travelling Dutch fans and the Greeks.

No confirmation has been made as of yet regarding whether any fans were arrested.
