Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen could be set for a return to former loan club Borussia Mochengladbach in January.


Having made 28 appearances and been a key player under Antonio Conte last season, the Danish defender, 22, has found himself benched by Maurizio Sarri.

While Conte used three centre-backs in a 3-4-3 formation, Sarri has reverted to a back four which has seen David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger paired together.

Christensen has had to settle for five Europa League and two Carabao Cup appearances so far this season.

Barcelona had an offer rejected for the unsettled youngster, while AC Milan are also interested in signing him.

Yet Christensen spent two seasons on loan at Borussia Mochengladbach from 2015, and the German club are optimistic Chelsea will allow him to join them on loan in January.


However, Christensen's future is likely to depend on whether Gary Cahill stays at the club.

The Blues are happy to let Gary Cahill, 32, leave the club in the January transfer window.

The former England international has also seen his game time limited and wants to play regularly as he nears the end of his career.

Former club Aston Villa and Turkish side Fenerbahce are monitoring any developments.
