CHILDHOOD

Luka Modrić was born on the 9th day of September 1985 in Zadar, Croatia. He was born into a family of refugees who fled from Serbian aggressors during the Bosnia war. His mum Radojka Modrić was once a textile worker and father, Stipe Modrić, was once a military mechanic who repaired cars for Croatian soldiers at war.

Luka during his childhood times experienced the horrific events in Zadar during the Croatian War.

Luka was constantly judged because of his little physique. He was considered small and weak and someone who wouldn’t grow to the physique of a footballer. One could trust that he will be a big player. However, the ball was ‘pretty in his legs’ as Luka focused on playing on his own in front of his family’s hotel room.

The only way he could check if he is worthy to play football was to go for a youth trial. The opportunity came as contained in career summary.

PERSONAL LIFE

Luka married his agent Vanja Bosnic at 25. The young people had business relations for four years, but everything changed later.

Modrić has three children. In a month after the wedding, the boy Ivano was born. Three years later, Vanja gave birth to the daughter Ema; in 2017, the daughter Sofia was born.

Luka Modrić is a home-loving man; unlike his colleagues, he does not like parties and social events. The player has never been seen at nightclubs – on the weekend, one might find him together with his family in a zoo or a similar place.

The sportsman has his own Instagram page where he posts photos from the field and family pictures.

ROAD TO BALLON D'OR

The 33 years old Croatian National team captain, Luka Modric, and midfield maestro ended the 10 years reign of Ronaldo and Messi, on Monday 3rd December, 2018 as he was honoured with the Ballon d’Or title as the world best Footballer of the year.

Juventus and ex Real Madrid star, Christiano Ronaldo came seccond, while Messi, who is fondly called “The GOAT” by his fans finished in the fifth position, with Antoine Griezmann and France teammate Kylian Mbappé finishing in the second and third place respectively.

His victory didn’t come as a surprised to Football lovers across the world, as he had earlier in the year been honoured by Fifa as the world top player of the year.
He has had a glorious year, as he won the Champions league with Real Madrid, and took his National team to the World Cup finals in Russian were they lost to France in the Finals.
