LEST WE FORGET!!!

A political party is like a big family while politics is a game. It is the legitimate right of every member of the family to aspire to get the ticket of his political party. It is however known that the party's ticket is limited to a person at a time, as it can not be given to two or more people simultaneously, getting is ticket is where the political game of politics comes in.

Politics is an intellectual game of critical planning, effective strategy and top notch calculation. Its involves having the control of the limited resources available. It is normal for party members to play politics but they should NEVER allow it to divide their house for "a house divided against itself can never stand". If a person gets the party ticket today, the other members should not feel so embittered for two reasons:

1) The flag bearer of the party is a party member. Such person is your political brother/sister since both of you are from the same political family with the same party ideology, inclination and manifesto.

2) It may yet be your turn to fly the party's flag tomorrow.

The above scenario best describe the spirit of sportsmanship that is expected from all party faithfuls in general and our great party (APC)in particular. This sportsmanship spirit should naturally flow from any political contest, more so, when such contest is INTRA-PARTY.

It however sadden my heart that the political muscle flexing, amongst party members, groups and leaders, that led to our defeat in the last election in Oshodi is sadly still being repeated! This ugly development must be curtail immediately. There is a saying that: "those who do not look back to the past, will never get to where they wish to go." Therefore, it is only right for us to reflect on what we have gone through to fully understand where we are.

Prior to the 2015 general elections, the political atmosphere within the APC Oshodi was devoid of strong individual interests because all members saw themselves as brothers, working towards actualising the same goal. This united spirit was however broken when some party faithfuls were not happy with the choice of the candidate that was chosen, hence, decided not to work for the party.

And for the first time in the political history of Oshodi Federal Constituent, our great party suffered a devastating loss to the then opposition -PDP due to the internal infraction.

Fast forward to 2018, it is a known fact that the primaries of our great party was keenly contested and a winner is expected to emerged. Many people may go into a contest, it is only normal that only one person will naturally emerge a winner and in the spirit of sportsmanship, brotherhood and harmony, the other contestants are expected to accept the outcome, and rally round the winner to become the ultimate winner in the general election. This is however not the case in Oshodi polity as some party leaders, groups and members appear not to be happy with the outcome of the results and have since stand aloof by not fully participating in the party activities that would ensure ultimate Victory for the party.

The altitude of these party faithfuls, if not promptly checked and corrected, will bring nothing but Doom to the party at the polls. We had toil this lane before and it doesn't bring us any good. The top echelon of our party should remember that it was this same infraction that was not promptly and properly managed that snowballed into the humiliating defeat the party suffered in the 2015 election. A tree cannot make a forest, hence all hands must be on deck to get back our mandate that we allowed opposition took from us due to our divided house.

With the way things presently stand, I fear there might be a repeat of what happened in 2015 if speedy, serious and drastic action is not taken to nip this ugly dimension in the bud by reconciling all the aggrieved parties. Our house needs to be in order and present a formidable front as we go into the elections.

As we go into the electioneering proper, there is the urgent need for all political gladiators within the Oshodi polity to shield their political swords and work harmoniously for the interest and victory of the party across board. When this is done, it is then we can all have the sense of belonging and also not repeat the mistake of the past.

In all sincerity, the noble efforts of the Local Govt. chairman (Hon. Bolaji Muse Ariyo) and other notable leaders within the party need to be commended. They have been working to bring to table all the aggrieved parties so as to have a formidable team. But there is more that needs to be done to achieve this height.

The leadership of our party at the state level should, also as a matter of urgency, send down a high power Reconciliation Team that will be totally neutral so as to heal all wounds and also facilitate the much needed and long awaited reconciliation and reunion amongst the rank and file of the party's leadership, contestants, groups and members in Oshodi.

A stitch in time saves nine.
