We understand from the Marslow’s hierarchy of Human needs, that the sexual needs of man is not negligible. Sex and sexuality are integral parts of the human person, a part that play the all-important roles of increase and multiplication. Therefore, no one can present a substantial denial that sex and sexuality are inexhaustively sacrosanct. However, the impurity of Human mind has translated into various aberrations, we find people expressing their sexuality in ways that are not just antithetical to the natural order, but are also mightily harmful to the constituents of their being. It is now commonplace to find individuals publicly declare themselves gay, some others prefer to act with animals(Beastialism), and yet another group delights in pleasuring themselves.

To make matters worse, the clamour for an egalitarian society has prompted the legalization of some of these practices, especially in the Western world. With the continued moral deploration, gay individuals want to get wedded in the church, women demand to go topless and men protest to be allowed to wear skirts and blouses. All these conglomerate to place the society at a peak where anyone who is short of standard is bound to fall off.
For the sake of this article, we’ll limit our discussion to a single but pertinent concept, masturbation.
Masturbation is the manual erotic stimulation of the genitals or other erogenous regions, often to orgasm, either by oneself or a partner. Recently, there’d been a debate over the idea of masturbation, while some Christians believe it is a sin and offends God, others maintain it has no spiritual significance. I don’t intend to take sides here, I’ll instead present valid points that are free of religious interpretations. In 2009, the National Health Service in U.K., produced a leaflet to promote masturbation, this was distributed to students, parents and teachers, stating that it was a healthy practice. Similarly, also in 2009, a campaign promoted healthy masturbation in Spain, providing instructional techniques, contraceptive advice and other supports. This shows that the Society’s view of masturbation is one that promotes it continual practice.

WHY DO PEOPLE MASTURBATE?

A number of reasons account for the practise of masturbation, some of them are:

Risk of STD: there is a reduced risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections. This is the major reason people masturbate, especially singles.
Ignorance: some persons are unaware of the dangers or even the benefits, they just felt like imitating what they’ve seen in porn videos, or what a friend had told them is right.
Depression: Frustrated and depressed individuals may resort to masturbation.

BENEFITS OF MASTURBATION

While people say it is morally wrong, we cannot fail to identify the many benefits which research has attributed to masturbation; some of them will surprise you.

Stress relief: masturbation quickens the body to sleep and as well stimulates the production of hormones that aid rest.
Help Blood Vessels: Tabriz Medical University identified in their 2008 research that, ejaculating through masturbation can reduce swollen nasal blood vessel which makes for normal breathing.
Prostrate Cancer: Research proves that men who masturbate frequently stand lower risks of prostrate cancer.
Mood Booster: Masturbation boosts the mood of the individual through the release of dopamine.
Better Sleep: Studies also show that masturbating make people to sleep faster and better.
RISKS OF MASTURBATION
This is where we stand to make choice, having seen the supposed benefits of the action, weighing the dangers that are associated with it, is as much necessary. Let’s get to it:

Addiction: frequent masturbation results in an addiction and this is as dangerous as any other addiction like drugs.
Erectile dysfunction: many of such cases has been identified with continuous masturbation
Neurological problems: masturbation has been proved to have adverse effects on the brain and other related organs.
Hair loss: chronic masturbators tend to loose their hair, though there is no much studies on this.
Premature ejaculation: over stimulation of the penile nerve reduces control over ejaculation in time.
Drowsiness: when Dopamine is released in excess in the brain, the individual is drowsy.
Sexual inactivity: Chronic masturbators end up having a bad sex life, they’ve been overwhelmed with self-stimulation and may not appreciate the touch of a partner. This has broken many relationships and as well ruined marriages.

So, we’ve succeeded in shedding light upon every area of masturbation, it is choice you’ll have to make, Wether to continue or quit.
