I believe so too.

The amended electoral law consists of very dangerous clauses. It is best signed into law after the 2019 elections. The time is short now.

Only a fool test the depth of water with two feet.
Are u aware this is the 4th time he has rejected to sign the bill?

Ahmed Lawal will end up like all the enemies of this country.

It was people like him that canvassed and told the people that Abacha was the only hope for Nigeria. Five political parties ended up endorsing Abacha!

But God had the last laugh. Did Nigeria not move forward without Abacha? So shall it be with these enemies of the people.

Those pushing for the signing of the bill are only looking for excuses for their future failure .

How do you expect the president to sign the bill when election is less than 3months. What will happen to all the plans that INEC has made.

Beaides, why is the opposition party trying to amend the bill at this piunt.
if he were that bothered about timing and all,he'd have signed the bill into law much earlier cos I understand it's the 3rd time he's withholding assent to the amended electoral bill

Imagine what is coming out of your mouth.

INEC is not only ready but has also carried out a Pilot test of d system in EKITI and OSUN.

but because dre is no law to back it up they kept the findings and results secret.

If truly BUHARI is sure of his popularity he should hv signed it and be disgraced.

Go and sign it your self

bayomillz14:
The Majority Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Saturday said there was nothing to worry about in President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to withhold assent on the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2018.

Lawan told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Abuja that the Electoral Act (2010) was good enough for the conduct of the 2019 general elections.

He said the President’s decision should not be misinterpreted, adding that it was done in the interest of the country.

“That the President declined assent to the bill was no big deal.

“We can still use the Electoral Act, 2010, that was used in 2015 general elections.

“This is to allay the fears of the citizens, who might think that the 2019 elections would not be well conducted without the amendment.

“What we need to do is to look at the few lapses, especially in terms of administration which does not need any legal backing.

“INEC conducted a very good election in 2015 with the existing act.

“So, I believe that we can use that and nobody should start thinking that the elections will not be free and fair.

“The 2015 elections were free, fair and transparent. All over the world, we were commended for conducting such a credible election.

“It is not like the current act is so defective that we cannot use it, ” he said.

The leader said the bill could be worked on, to be used in elections beyond 2019.

He pointed out that: “If we cannot use the current amendments in 2019, who says we cannot use it in the 2023 elections and elections in between 2019 and 2023.

“So, national interest is of utmost importance and not the noise being made by some people. So, there is no reason for worry or agitation.”

Lawan said the president, as an elderstatesman, had the interst of the country at heart and his action should not be misconstrued to mean selfishness.

According to him, the President cares for the masses, the progress, stability and development of the country and would not take any decision that would impact on the nation negatively.

Lawan must have been pretending not to have seen the current revelation that Buhari won the 2015 election due to a dysfunctional 2010 Electoral Act where millions of non accredited voters voted in states where Buhari won.

How has d country moved on? Is it by impoverishing the citizens thereby earning us the title "citizens of world's capital of poverty"? if u are not already poor as a result of buharis lack of ideas and useless policies, definitely someone in your village/family is affected.
Buhari wickedly increased petrol pump price to N145/l with the excuse of stopping subsidy payment, the subsidy is still being paid. They told us when the boarders are closed and we produce our own rice, rice will be affordable. The foreign rice is much cheaper now, and it used to be less than half the price(during GEJ) of what it is now. Dollar has gone from less than N200 to almost N400, and the govt is wickedly out of ideas about how to manage it.
Now tell me, did APC/buhari take us backward since taking over power or has moved the nation forward as u wrongfully claim?

Senator Lawan. when you knew there was nothing wrong with the 2010 law used for 2015 elections. why were you part of the amendment in the first place? You are a Senator and along with your other colleagues the amendment went through 1st and 2nd reading non of you killed the bill. Now that you people have passed it and when they were sending it for president's assent, there was no objection from you. We need prayers in this country for these APC law makers will not distabilize this country as they love power more than the country.

Re: Electoral Act: Buhari's Refusal To Sign The Bill Was No Big Deal - Lawan by 26carat(m): 10:52pm On Dec 08, 2018
I will not insult anybody for this decision not to sign the bill. But that it has been sent four times now means a lot. If you are asked in class to write an exam four times without it been marked. How will you feel? Why not tell them it's a waste of time. That they should wait till 2023. This bill was long debated. How to implement it is not the President issue. He should ask INEC if they can use it first. God save Nigeria
