Thousands of Biafran Jews on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest in a place they call Biafra land, demanding end to injustice, killing of their people and what they call referendum to determine their fate in Nigeria.

The protesters who trooped out in their thousands began the peaceful protest around 10:00am from home of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu at Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, adorning Jewish attires, stormed major streets in Umuahia with placards, chanting pro-Biafra songs and waving Biafra and Israeli flags.

They also chanted songs in Hebrew language.

But the peaceful protest turned awry as the protesters were intercepted at the Okpara Square area of the capital city as the procession made its way towards the popular Isi -Gate axis by heavily armed police men in over four pick -up vans who ordered them to halt.

The security men immediately started firing canisters of tear gas to disperse the protesters.

Unspecified number of the protesters were arrested and whisked away by the police while others scampered for safety.

Army armoured tank and solders in pick up vans were also observed patrolling the area but they watched from a distance as police arrested the hapless Jewish worshipers.

Traders around the vicinity including Isi -Gate abandoned their ware as they fled for dear life.

Members of the public around the area including journalists covering the event had a full dose of the tear gas.

Reports say the Biafran Jews later regrouped to continue with the peaceful protests as residents were seen hailing them as they called for the restoration of Biafra Republic, kicked against injustice and killing of its members.

Meanwhile, the group also raised some posers for the people they described as hypocrites. Some of the questions include “where are our so called Christians which I’m a member of”?
“Does it mean that it’s only the Biafran Jews are more interested about the freedom of our people?”
“Will i just say that the political gangsters has taken over the whole Churches in Biafra Land?”
“Where those blaming and criticizing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for calling Biafra a Jewish Nation in Africa? And where is your own religion, have they ever come out to protest for the freedom of Biafra people?”.
