Despite being labeled as the giant of Africa, the general feeling in Nigeria and the entire world is that Africa most populous nation could do much better, given her natural resources, capacity, capability and potential. In the years after her independence, Nigeria was regarded as a land flowing with honey and milk but nowadays over 30% Nigerians search for greener pastures abroad. Nigerians mostly travel abroad to countries like Canada, United State of America, Spain, and Dubai, France. This situation has degenerated and gotten so worse that many Nigerians wish the colonial master would come back to rule Nigeria. As great as Nigeria is as a nation, there are so many problems pulling the country back and preventing it from moving forward. Being the head of this nation is prestigious, but washing the nation clean if her problems is an exhilarating mission.
The complexity and magnitude of the problems create confusion among the populace. The leaders also face the same confusion. The leaders don’t know where to start to tackle the myriad of problems. That is why there different views and programs at different levels of governance. For example, while some governors are focusing on the provision of water, others are working on roads, yet others focus on environmental sanitation and infrastructure. The federal government seems to be focusing on roads, among others. There is no coordinated and coherent agenda among different tiers of government in the country.
