First lesson: Popular tricks of salesmen?

1. "Want to find a sedan or SUV?"

Salesmen usually ask like this to orient you to get either of these two. but don't be misled, keep calm and stick to ur original plan!
Also, when shopping for cars, do not be afraid to say no to sales staff. If you just want to take a look but not buy immediately, ask straightforward whether you can do so

2. Odd price: N999,999

Sellers often put their price at odd to make it sound much cheaper. Do not forget to bring your own cell phone or another mobile device to do a quick research.

3. "This car costs only N100,000 per month"

Dealers often talk about monthly payments instead of the total value of the car. If you know the price of the car is around N7 million, you may feel it a bit expensive and hard to afford. However, if the salesperson says that you only pay N100,000 per month, this price may sound much more acceptable.

4. "You look great in that car"

Everyone loves hearing flattery words n Im sure u too. Some smart sellers often use a mirror or large window to show customers their image while sitting in the driver's seat. They will convince you that you look great when driving the car, which is pleasing to the ears and makes you open the purse strings.

Top lady cars that men should stay away from cry

Generally speaking, there are no "male cars" or "female cars" labels on any car ever produced, it just that some cars are more feminine than others. For one, can you imagine Yao Minh, the 2-meter-tall basketball player driving a KIA morning? He can, but it's very unlikely that you'd see him in one anytime soon, it just looks off.
Below are top Lady cars which best suit women. Take a look at those vehicles and figure out why they are best cars for girls! So why are you, men, supposed to read this? First, to stay away when shopping for your own car. Second, to buy it as a gift for your beloved!

1. Toyota Rav4
Take one up-close look for several minutes at the car and you'd understand why. It wasn't this unfit for men with the first edition, but the later ones, the 2nd and 3rd editions are manufactured in a way that clearly implies "Bro, stay out of this". You can still buy it for your beloved women though.

2. Toyota Sienna
This one is similar to the Rav4, just with a little less masculinity. On a broader perspective, you should think twice, if not thrice, before even consider driving a mini-van. We wonder if there's a hidden message here from the manufacturer. Maybe they created this line of product just so we can buy it for our wives and moms. The message is steer-clear with the 1998-2003 models.

3. Volkswagen New Beetle
Okay, this one is too obvious - there are just too many curves on this car, which clearly indicate femininity. It's notable that cars from the Volkswagen brand used to look very different, with rough edges and all that, so that men can feel perfectly comfortable driving in one. Only recently, 1998 to be exact, the bodywork of the car started to shift, with more curves added to the exterior and it has become almost completely curved with the Beetle model.

4. Kia Picanto
First off, we have nothing against this car in terms of fuel economy and convenience. Kia Picanto is offered at very attractive prices and consumes an unbelievably low amount of fuel. Also, the smaller size of the car means you can park it almost anywhere, it would only take up 2 motorcycles space.

Used car inspection - The ultimate checklist

Steps in vehicle inspection checklist
1. Quick imagination of car history
Take a first look around the exterior of the car to identify anything that is out of place. Several cracks on the body is an indication that there may be more cracks in hidden parts. Also take a look at the objects in the interior such as the seats, inner door handles, and steering wheel among others. Are they in good condition? Sit in the driver’s seat to check if you are comfortable. Can you see the road clearly? Do you have enough leg room?

These quick glances can partly tell you some about the car history and all the incidents it has gone through. During the check, you may want to ask the seller questions of car history in different ways to see whether they give a consistent answer or not.

2. Start the car cold
Cold starting is a great way to detect a faulty engine. Take some time to check other aspects of the car. After a while, ask the salesperson to start the car. Do you see any smoke from the exhaust? How does the engine sound? If it produces a rough sound, forget about the car as this is an indication of a major problem. A good engine runs smoothly without a cracked sound.

3. Inspect the windshield
Pay close attention to the windshield. Look out for damages on it such as cracks and chips. Avoid big chips and cracks. If you want to replace the windshield, you need to budget between $320 - $1000, equivalent to N116,600 - N364,480. You may also need a calibration after replacement if the windshield has a sensor attached to it.

4. Inspect the body panels
What does the reflection from the body panels look like? Do you spot any difference in the paint texture? If yes, it’s an indication of the previous body works on the car. You may not spot this if you are very close to the car. Move backwards and look at it from afar in order to have a better view.

Open and close all doors. Do you notice any obstruction or sound? Doors should open swiftly. Lift the driver’s door on hinges while open. Do you notice any freeplay? That shouldn’t be. One more thing, avoid cars that have signs of excessive use because their transmission could be worn.

5. Inspect the tires
Car tires must always be in good condition. Do they have any cuts or look worn? Look out for the brand. All tires must be of the same brand for safety reasons.

Tires don’t last forever, they wear out, but the wearing out should be even. If they are more worn out on the inside, the car might have a wheel alignment problem.
Look out for bulges on the sides. These are unrepairable and must be replaced as they could cause fatal accidents.

The tread depth of new tires ranges from 10/32' to 11/32', and can last up to 50, 000 miles. A new set of tires cost between $400 - $1200.

6. Inspect the interior
The interior of a car determines its level of comfort. First, you don’t want to have problems with your keys. Check if both key fobs are working properly. New cars have 2 or 3 key fobs. Be sure to ask the salesperson how many the car has.

You and your loved ones or passengers will be sitting in the car seats. Ensure that they are comfortable. Look out for damages such as burnt marks and tears.
7. Inspect power windows, mirrors and locks
Power windows, mirrors, locks and other accessories are just as important. Old cars often have window regulator problems. Test them to be sure that they move up and down freely.

Used cars often have heated seat problems, and these are quite expensive to replace. Be sure to check that they are in good condition.

Pay close attention to the controls. How is the audio system? Is the CD Player or USB import in good condition?

8. Inspect the air conditioner and heater functions
Driving can be stressful, and you don’t want to be stuck in a car without good ventilation. Check the air conditioner thoroughly while the car engine is on. If cold air doesn’t emanate from the vents soon enough, it’s an indication that it’s faulty.

Next, check settings of the heater fan speed. Heater fans often have the problem of working only at high speed.

Also, what does the vents smell like? Burnt oil smell probably indicates leakage in the engine compartment.

9. Check flood damage
Flooded cars are prone to problems. There are many wireworks beneath modern cars, and these can cause problems when soaked in water. Look out for dampness or moisture under the carpet.

If you aren’t convinced, you should request for a history report to ascertain how the car has fared with flood.
10. Inspect under the hood
Before doing this, you need to turn off the engine. Put the transmission in Park and apply parking brake. These are safety precautions to prevent casualty.

Go under the car and look out for the following:

Antifreeze
Leaks
Poor quality repairs
Indicators that the car has not been serviced regularly
Note that a clean look under the hood isn’t a guaranty that the car is in good condition. The salesperson might have given it a proper wash. Ensure that a mechanic does further inspection.

High mileage cars often have minor leakages, and these could be indicators of major problems. You should aim for cars that have no leakage at all to avoid reoccurring problems. Dripping water from a running AC is the only normal leakage in a car.

11. Check the engine oil level
If you aren’t cut out for this, it’s advisable to allow your mechanic to do it. First, turn off the car engine and apply parking brake. Locate the engine dipstick, and pull it out. How does the oil look? If it’s dirty, it’s a sign of poor maintenance. Lift the oil filler cap, and look into the engine with the aid of a flashlight. If you see thick black deposits, the engine is in a bad condition.

12. Inspect transmission fluid
Note that some cars don’t have transmission fluid dipstick. If the car has one, drop little fluid on white paper towel. How does it look? If it’s very dirty and smells bad, it’s an indication of excessive transmission wear.

6 things to remember when looking for a car window tint supplier

Lots of motorists love car window tint which boosts their cars’ sexiness along with useful benefits. However, it’s rather a fuss when it comes to picking car window tint. With today’s article 6 things to remember when looking for a good car window tint purchase, we hope to help you find out the answer.

1. Carry out a survey
To find the right tint from the right brand, research is essential. No matter online or offline as your method of researching, spending time getting to know more about the companies providing car window tint in your area will give you more choices. With ample information, comparisons of their policies and prices are the firm foundation for the good tint choice.

2. Getting the proper film
High-end films which are a bit darker than the ordinary ones are recommended for those motorists who use their cars a lot. Conversely, basic films can work well with cars less in use.

3. Price comparison
Some tint films of the same quality might be priced differently. That may be because they offer different policies or services. Don’t look down on the price comparison or else hassles can find you.

4. Warranty Checking
Warranty is like a credit which customers can take from the supplier. Without warranty, you get more chances of being tricked.

However, getting warranty from the provider is not enough, you should consider what included in the warranty as well. Make sure the warranty has terms of installation damages and other important buyer rights. Check every clause carefully!

5. Tint film checking
To see is to believe, ask for the samples of the tint films which you’ll get so that you have a clear idea of what your final product will look like or if it fit your expectations. If it’s really satisfying to you, then take it, if not, leave it.

6. Checking their work
While you can easily check the quality of the product, checking the quality of the installation work is more tricky. Benchmarking their work against their other customers helps you check if they provide you the service that up to standard or not.

What is odometer fraud and how to spot it when buying used cars?

1. What is the reason for Odometer fraud?
ODO stands for odometer, a small part of the car with a small screen to display with the purpose of recording the number of miles or kilometers the car has traveled since the date it left the factory. It is mostly located on the tableau, visible to the people on the front seats.

Now is the reason. As a general rule of the market, cars with fewer miles traveled could be sold at higher prices, as opposed to lower price for cars with a higher number of kilos traveled. That's pretty much the reason why odometer fraud occurs.

This problem has been on the market for way too long that we don't even know exactly when, but probably not very long after the first used cars market was born. It is serious not only because it hikes the price of the car in an unethical way but also it's very subtle and is often taken care of by professionals.

2. Signs of interference with your odometer
Generally speaking, there are two to three ways to detect the issue in used vehicles. First off, carefully check the dashboard and look for the following signs:

The screws that hold the odometer to the tableau are loosened or missed
The numbers in the screen are not in line with each other
The protection cap shows signs of being scratched

If the car has one or all of the above, the change that its odo has been rolled back. Also, you should see if the car's condition really "feel" like they've traveled such miles or the number is much greater.
According to car experts, a typical car in Nigeria that has traveled around 30 thousand kilometers or is more than 3 years old would still have its initial pairs of tires and components. Some scratches on the surface are acceptable. Otherwise, the presence of a new alternator and/or radials, water pump means that it has traveled more than 190 thousand kilometers.

Another seemingly simple way to approve the validity of the number on the odo is to cross-check it with a receipt that has a real number in it (For example, a receipt of an auto service say that the car has changed oil after 100,000 kilometers but the odometer only present 80,000). Those numbers should match if you buy the car from an honest owner.

3. Can I prevent odometer interference from happening?
Modern vehicles are equipped with digital odometers that are more secured with any kind of tampering. Having said that, a pro hacker with a right kind of equipment and lines of codes could though not easily, hack the odometer without breaking a real sweat. And it's almost impossible to track back to the one who tampered the odometer, especially those cars that has changed hands many times.

U can check the post for more details but in short, everything is launched at the beginning of the year, including new products, new upgrades, new taxes, new fees... while the staff don't need to care much about their KPI, so they won't try their best to sell you car at best price.

If you tend to buy an electric car, check out Why are electric cars not popular in Nigeria?

Electric vehicle (EV) is known as a new concept in the auto market with a lot of advantages as environmental friendliness or reducing fuel consumption. While EVs are in high demand in developed countries, they are not very popular in Nigeria. The following might be the reasons why:

1. Range Anxiety
When driving electric cars, drivers always have to worry about when and where they should have their car's battery charged up, otherwise, they cannot arrive at their destination because of the car’s insufficient charge. This makes Nigerian feel not only inconvenient but also dissatisfied

2. Charging time trauma
For gasoline or diesel cars, Nigerian drivers need just five minutes to full fill up the gas tank. In contrast, they must spend at least 4 to 6 hours to get the EVs fully charged. Besides, it takes them a lot of time to find a commercial charging station on the road.

3. Short supply of electricity
Nigeria is a country which is short of electricity while electric vehicles spent a large deal of electric power. This is also one of the most important reasons preventing electric vehicles from being manufactured or imported in the country.

4. Higher prices
An electric vehicle is more expensive than a gas car. Normally, an affordable EV starts from as low as $30,000 and go as high as $40,000 while a luxury EV can cost up to $80,000. Most average income Nigerian cannot afford such price tag.

5. Maintenance matters
It’s true that EVs drivers do not need engine oil like gas cars users do. However, when it comes to maintenance, there are not many experts having the capability to repair electric cars, especially in Nigeria. That’s why EVs seems to be not welcomed in the country.

Let's see How to distinguish between a genuine seller and a scammer when buying car online today!

Tip 1. Check the car photo
No seller affords to redesign their photo's background before they post it on classified websites, so if you find edited car photos, it is likely that they are not legit ones and are downloaded from the internet. And the seller of the listing is usually a scammer.

Tip 2. Check the car description
Normally, scammers do not like typing detailed descriptions because they lack information about the car. They usually copy the general car description from a random website and paste it in the description field. That would look like this:

Make: Toyota
Model: Corolla
Year: 1999
Notice that scammer’s description is usually very short and doesn't have any suitable explanation of the car. The reason is that scammers hate wasting time to make a valuable description or they don’t know the necessary car information. For instance, scammers always write short description such as “Nigeria used Toyota Camry, buy and drive, for more detail call Mr A”.

On the contrary, real sellers should make a long description, which includes a great deal of information about their vehicle. Therefore, their car description is usually long and very valuable in order to provide car buyers with as much information as possible to come to buying decision quicker.

Tip 3. Check seller's other ads
Another useful way to spot scammers is checking out their cars posted before. Make sure that their previously photos have the similar background or legitimate write-up. Otherwise, those sellers are likely car scammers.

Tip 4. Other little but important tricks
Those sellers might be scammers if they do the following things:

Request your advance payment in order to keep the car for you before you see it
Tell that he/she is not in the country, so you must contact with another person to process some papers before you can take the car.
Refuse to let you come to his/her house or office to check the car
Post the same car on different ads with different prices, features or mileages etc.

good day guys the story is a bit long , he is a friend that came to me that his life has no direction that I should help him I asked him how I can help he told me to buy him a car and his senior brother keeps calling me as well on his younger brother behalf actually am a family friend we have known for 2decades from my secondary school days.. I told him to choose a car of his choice and I will pay for it, when ever he is coming to my house at the island I send money to him and also take care of him, he told me he saw a Honda accord 2009 he likes at Ikeja, I gave him a date within same week I will be free to go with him and pay for the car and after buying the car I changed tires and painted the car, after fixing the car up we took the car to taxifier office to register the car, then I gave the car to him with an agreement of hire purchase which was signed by his brother and in-law as witness and surety, according to the agreement we had he was to pay me 30k per week for 30months and I told the brother if see my money for 20months I will give him the document that I just want him to be serious .. So I released the car to him to start working with it, but he took the car to his house and parked it there for one week, when I asked him about it he said he was waiting for his family members to come pray over the car before he starts working with it, the second week he started working with the car, he worked with the car only for three days and he purposely drive the car into a deep flood at orege in ajengunle water got into the car the engine went off , I didn't even know about this accident at first he didn't call me to tell me about it, I only noticed that whenever I call him doesn't pick, that made me to call his elder brother to ask about him, the brother called him and he said he was driving some ladies to a wedding and got into flood that shut engine he has to tow the car to yaya crecent at new road saying he doesn't have money to fix the car my car was there for 3weeks the brother who is the surety and sister keeps calling me to assist and fix my car, I went to the mechanic spent roughly 85k bought connecting road, fuel pump, the catalyst was removed I was mad had to buy another. The mechanic took more 3days to be through with the job I told the him to drive the car to my house at the island so I can test drive it to be sure it's OK, on his way he called me that the car is losing pressure won't accelerate he drove the car to city of David church at sand filled were his senior brother works and ever since then till now going to 6months he never picked my calls nor call me back The senior brother took the car to oyingbo to another mechanic and the mechanic told me the best thing now is to buy another engine and complete exhaust, that he has fix the car but when the air con is on in a hold up the engine vibrate and the car pressure is not as before, been calling the senior brother he is acting lackadaisical about the whole issue and he is the surety, the car is still at oyingbo. Hi there, I must say that guy might have no serious responsibility with the agreement from the beginning. but the terms do not clearly mention the actions or fines if the hirer breaks the rules, so its hard to ask him to pay for repair cost or give a compensation sum. You should be more careful next time n include all possibilities in the contract, especially the actions two sides must perform when an unfortunate incident happens like this.
back to your case now, did the hirer pay for 2 weeks he used the car? and could u contact his brother? His brother should be the key person in this situation.

contacted the senior brother he doesn't pick my calls,i called the sister she told me her brother lost his phone but I did not believe her because 2days ago his line went through but he did not pick my calls.. I know I did not include all possibilities in the contract but I also state in the contract that when ever he feels like terminating the contract he should bring back my car to my house on his own cost and risk but he has not done that rather he refuse to pick up calls and my car is at the mechanic at oyingbo where his brother dropped it. He did not pay me a dime for the two weeks not a penny.

Oh I see. First, what I mean in including all possibilities is that you have to state what consequences when he doesn't conform to the contract like he would be paid extra or something like that.

In this case, its obvious they dont want to take responsibility for that. 2 things u should do I think, 1 is trying to trace their living places/ work from their acquaintances to ask for your money (2 weeks of payment n repair cost at least). 2 is consulting an authority/ police officer so that he can help forcing those guys to turn up.

Here is my own honest opinion:

1. Just inform the police (prepare to pay some small money at the station for complaint and stuff),
then, make the police realize that you are recovering your vehicle back from the Oyingbo mechanic.

2. Goto the mechanic shop at Oyingbo alongside a police officer and recover your car back but have someone use a smartphone to snap you and the police officer at the shop as you recover back the vehicle.
Also, draft a sort of document where you will sign,
the mechanic shop owner will sign,
and if possible a witness will also sign at the mechanic shop.
This will prove that you legally recovered your vehicle back because the hirer violated:
Paragraph (4) of the hire purchase agreement by not remitting any week's payment yet to you as initially agreed.

3. Settle the policeman with any small tip for coming with you then,
Tow your vehicle back to your own house.

4. Don't bother calling the hirer's brother or the hirer himself anymore, it's of no use.

5. Now decide what you want to do with the vehicle, either find a way to sell it off in that current condition or repair it from your purse and be using it for commercial hire. (It's all left for you to decide)
P.S: You can post the vehicle for sale at - https://naijauto.com/sell-car

Reason for my above advice:
This is Nigeria, Let me give you some facts that I can categorically tell you from your story and my past experience:

a. The Hirer is a highly unserious man that is not ready to work for money, he rather just wants someone rich to be given him money for free and feeding him for free.

(I am a Christian and I understand that God wants us to always do good/favor to everyone, but my bible also teaches that whenever you are doing a favor and your inner mind is not happy or pleased with such favor anymore, just stop.)
Any favor you are doing but not happy about is not acceptable to God at that point.

b. At this point, the hirer is not making you happy anymore to be wasting your money in the name of doing him a favor. Such is life, and that's how some Lazy men are.

c. The hirer's brother is also in one way not encouraging and might actually be in support of all the hirer's attitude.

>>> Just do the needful legally, and try to overlook all the money the Hirer owes you + the money you have spent on repairs.
>>> Trust me, I don't see the Hirer as the type of person that can pay up his debts at all if you want to drag him to court.

------ Just let it go, if you can. Recover your vehicle back legally and think of what to do next.-----

If the same man comes back to beg you to give him the car after you have repaired it, PLEASE DON'T.
ELSE YOU WILL END UP IN THE SAME SITUATION OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Really sad.
They are abusing your good will and feel that you would not take serious efforts to whip them in line.

Pls send me an SMS or call me on O8O6379O773. I'm a lawyer and I'll take up his matter. It's like those guys want 2019 to be rough for them.

Don't worry, you'll get your car and you will get it fixed.

I am in support of this move. OP please count your loss, recover your vehicle & move on.
I had a near similar experience in Oct ending, where a supposedly Taxify driver blew the Head gasket of a three weeks old Tokunbo Camry 2003. I swung into action by selling my Camry 2000 & use part of the sales proceed in fixing the one with blown head gasket & convert it to personal use.

I will suggest that if you can, just go there in person to confirm if your vehicle is still there and why the mechanic is refusing to pick your calls.

Because it seems to me that the mechanic is trying to play safe and stay out of the situation. Which I don't blame him. You know how our Nigerian local mechanics commonly behave now.

Please go there with a witness once you get the chance. Or if you are the busy type, you can just send someone to go there unsuspiciously and check if your car is still there in the shop.

And once you have successfully confirmed that it's still there, you can now make further plans to go recover it legally.

Correct.
Don't mind them, they felt you'll take it lying low.

Collect your vehicle from them and insist on them repairing it before you collect it from them. If they tell you long stories, remind them of the agreement and tell them your lawyers are on it.

Cheers.

Back to car buying tips, let's welcome the new year 2019 with top economy cars to buy for this year!

Cheap and practical does not mean that these models give their drivers boring sensation.

Economy cars refers to models with low buying and maintenance cost. Because of that, people often associate these models with dull. In fact, not all economical cars are boring, and you can look at 15 names below to understand why we say so.

1. Honda Civic Hatchback
On this day, we can see the name Civic Type R mentioned everywhere with great praises but let's not forget the existence of the Civic Hatchback standard version Although it could not produce the max speed of 300 horsepower, this car runs fast and boasts vast range of practical uses.

2. Volkswagen Up!
Although this Micro Up model is not available in every market in the world, it deserves to be in this list as you may find it very fun driving this car. A lightweight chassis combined with a short wheelbase is a formula that brings smiles to all customers, regardless of the driving pattern.

3. Ford Fiesta
Fiesta is a very impressive and beautiful car. It is also well equipped and can be fitted with Ford's excellent 1.0-liter supercharged 3.0-liter turbocharged engine. And if you have a little extra cash in the bank, you can choose to take the "upgraded" Fiesta ST for less than $22,000 (equivalent to around N8 million).

4. Kia Rio
The model that was once considered cheap means of transport now becomes a shiny hatchback, with good driving sensation. You will not be disappointed when choosing Kia Rio with the manual gearbox version.

5. Kia Soul
The appearance of the Kia Soul family car may not be suitable for everyone, but it is definitely a car that can hold a lot of people and luggage. A perfect car to do all sort of things.
