Michael Carrick will be acting as the interim manager of Manchester United until a new temporary manager is appointed, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports reports that Manchester United will officially appoint a temporary manager until the season within the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Carrick and Kieran McKenna will reportedly continue to take training - with the former acting as interim boss - as the search for manager goes on.

Club statement said that "a new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager".

It is now reported that Zinedine Zidane becomes the hottest favourites to replace the sacked Jose Mourinho.

Former Real Madrid manager Zidane has been strongly linked with United in 2018, with talkSPORT's French journalist Julien Laurens saying: "He would be tempted – I think he loves the idea."
