Press Release Reaction: Amnesty International's Latest Report "Harvest Of Death" by celinajumbo11(f): 5:44pm On Dec 18, 2018
No true compatriot can afford to feel indifferent about the details in Amnesty International’s latest report titled: ‘‘Harvest of Death: Three years of bloody clashes between herders and farmers’’ and the way it reflects on the very poor quality of government leadership in Nigeria at the moment.

The report catalogued that more than 3,600 people have been killed since 2016, with 310 attacks recorded between January 2016 and October 2018 - 57 per cent of which took place in 2018 alone.

It is regrettable that on a day when Amnesty International Nigeria launched its ponderous report and at a period when many Nigerians have deep concerns about how to support and motivate our gallant security personnel to do more, a military parade was being done – in the way of blundering dictators – to mark a birthday at Aso Rock!

The Amnesty International report shows the human cost of the cycle of violence between herders and farmers in parts of Nigeria affected by the clashes which resulted in alarming death tolls, depressing displacement of thousands of Nigerians and the very sad but total disruption of livelihoods for too many men, women and innocent children.

Flipping through the report, any discerning human being easily feels depressingly impacted by the gory experiences of too many struggling Nigerians in various parts of the country.

It is extremely unbelievable that such violence can easily proliferate in a nation with a government, especially one that hoodwinked Nigerians into believing it came with a mission of 'change', bandying the word ‘security’ as a fundamental goal it aimed to achieve immediately.

Rather than make further lamentations, it is time for all men and women of goodwill to frankly assert that Nigerians will not follow them to the "Next Level" of official insensitivity and tactlessness that has facilitated the loss of too many lives, often without even mere acknowledgement from those in power today.

Indeed, under this administration, lives are wantonly lost in homes, forests and highways in ways that make even those in war-torn countries to shudder with fear but still, this government of lies and propaganda continues to point accusing fingers at everyone but itself, at a time attributing horrendous crimes to late Libyan leader, Moammer Ghadaffi.

Nigeria under HE Atiku Abubakar will look at the reports of Amnesty international with a view to ascertaining the facts, getting the root of all infractions and putting in place, safeguards to prevent future occurrences.

We will overhaul our entire policing and security architecture to reflect present and future challenges as well as ensure massive interface with our communities with a view to having a governance structure that works for all under our restructuring agenda.

We mourn our lost compatriots as we call for peace and progress for Nigeria.
