Hon. Chike Okafor Commissions AE-FUNAI Health Centre, Staff Quarters by cyborgFUNAI: 7:10pm On Dec 19, 2018
As part of the programme of activities to mark the 3rd convocation ceremony of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, the member representing Obowo/Ihite Uboma/Ehime Mbano Federal Constituency in the National Assembly Hon. Chike Okafor yesterday, led other stakeholders in the Health sector that included the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib to commission a type-two primary health facility and staff quarters in the University.
The construction of the primary health facility which is meant for disease prevention in the University community and its environs was facilitated by Hon. Okafor, as part of his contribution to promote total wellness among staff and students as well as members of the University host community.

Meanwhile, six detached bungalows of 2-bed room each were also inaugurated by the honourable member. The bungalows which would serve as staff quarters were geared towards making the University a virtual community where staff and students live, work and interact together as one big family. The construction of the buildings was facilitated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Philip Omoke.

Speaking on his motivation for the project, Okafor noted that he facilitated the construction of the health centre in the University to support the developmental strides of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, whom he referred to as a very passionate and committed individual, with long lists of achievements as an academic, community leader and administrator.
He maintained that three of such facilities were also constructed in his federal constituency and thanked the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Agency for ensuring that the projects were completed on schedule.
He also assured that the health facility would be equipped, as it has been captured in the 2018 national health budget.

Shuaib in his submission advised the staff of the University Health Centre to ensure that the facility was used strictly for disease prevention, stressing that it is a type-two health facility and should not be used for curative measures. He was represented at the event by the Director of the Agency in charge of Southeast, Dr. E. O. Nwanze.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nwajiuba thanked Hon. Okafor for his large heart taking into cognizance that the University is not part of his constituency. He noted that it was only God that could have used him to play a unique part in the development of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor further used the opportunity to invite other good-spirited and philanthropic individuals and organizations to invest in the University, adding that the institution is yearning for such support.

The highpoint of the event was the conferring of a special AE-FUNAI honour on Hon. Chike Okafor by the University Management, for his selfless service to humanity
