Ondo State Government has approved a minimum premium of N300 million to take care of vulnerable groups which include pregnant women, children below five years and physically challenged when the State Contributory Health Scheme takes off February 2019.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro dropped the hint while speaking during an interview with Line Editors of The Hope yesterday in Akure.

According to him, the scheme which is expected to take off in February 2019 with necessary facilities in place, will enable residents of the state to access health at no cost.

While speaking further, he revealed that the state is the only one that has the fake drug detecting machine in the country, which according to him, has been helpful in reducing the incidence of fake drugs in the state.

Speaking on prevention of infectious diseases, the Commissioner noted that the government has upgraded the Infectious Disease Center, saying “we have finished the construction of the laboratory and we are expecting some instruments from the National Disease Control Centre.”

Speaking further, he said:”Ondo State Government is in partnership with Federal Government and we are using Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo as treatment center.

“We supply necessary materials for patients’ treatment and the state government has agreed to build a laboratory for them at the centre for quick diagnosis.”

Adegbenro assured the people of the state of government’s readiness to prevent any outbreak of infectious disease, saying “there is no case of yellow fever in the state and we are on the look out because we share boundaries with states that have it.”

He also hinted that government has approved the take off fund for the Teaching Hospital complex of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.

However, he stated that government has increased the number of Mother and Child Hospitals from two to seven, located in Owo, Ikare, Akure, Ondo, Ore, Okitipupa and Igbokoda. He added that government has also made provision for the running of these centres.
