it's a universal generic code but you still have to drop car make and model to enable engineers give a logical diagnosis.

check your Airflow meter, oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1, leak in vacuum lines and exhaust leak.
Though if you notice rpm flinctuations and several vibration/stalling when brake is applied try cleaning the Airflow meter first.

In layman's terms, this codes implies any of the following:
1. Too little fuel going into the combustion chambers to achieve a stoicometric ratio
2. Too much air( unmetered) going into the combustion chamber to achieve a stoicometric ratio
Note that the stoixometrix ratio I am talking about is the quantity of air required to mix a specific quantity of fuel to achieve combustion, which is about14.7 parts of air to 1 part of fuel.

Now regarding your case, for point 1 I advise you check your fuel filter condition if it is severely restricted. This can ultimately kill your fuel pump BTW. Dirt in the system can also cause a restriction to your fuel injectors(nozzles).

For point 2, since your car uses a MAF, check all hoses and air connections AFTER the MAF. Any unmetered air will have to be compensated for by the ECU by allowing more fuel to be dumped into the combustion chamber, causing fuel trims of over 25%. Your MAF sensor should also be inspected for dirt , as dirt can cause inaccurate reading, causing a false code to be thrown.

Finally I would also suggest you check your exhaust system for leaks especially at areas before the air/fuel ratio sensor. Leaks will cause the sensors to throw false error codes too.
