THE Minority caucus in the House of Representatives, on Thursday, lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo for referring to the National Assembly as a corrupt entity milking the nation dry.

Media reports had quoted the ex-president to have accused the National Assembly of taking remuneration from the nation, far beyond their productive level.
While replying the formner president, the caucus insisted that Obasanjo lacked the moral right to pronounce them corrupt because he (Obasanjo) allegedly instituted corruption in Nigeria.

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Honourable Ali Ndume, in his response to the remarks made by Obasanjo on the National Assembly, said thy were misplaced, adding that he lacked the moral right to pronounce the legislators as corrupt lots.

He, however, said the allegation of corruption against the National Assembly might not be totally false, adding that his grouse against Obasanjo was that he (Obasanjo), as the president of Nigeria, allegedly institutionalised corruption and, therefore, possessed no right to call anyone corrupt.

In his address to mark the end of the 2009/2010 legislative year, Ndume said the minorities in the House of Representatives also reviewed the government under President Goodluck Jonathan and came out with a verdict that the president had failed in his duties of providing good leadership for the nation.

The minority leader declared the government of President Goodluck Jonathan as a disaster, saying  that the president erred by refusing to sign the 2010 supplementary budget when the year had less than five months to wind up.

He asked the president to concentrate on governance rather than his current allged desire to upturn the zoning arrangement in his political party towards emerging as the presidential candidate for 2011.

Ndume castigated the president for failing to meet up the expectation of Nigerians who reposed so much hope in his leadership when fate brought him on board as the number one man in the country.
