A former legislator in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Hamisu Wazata was on Monday arraigned before a Kaduna State magistrate court for alleged certificate forgery and perjury.



Wazata represented Giwa West Federal Constituency in the state legislature between 2003 and 2007.



Wazata who is now the assistant secretary II of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, according to the First Information Report was alleged to have falsified his West African School Certificate Examination result.



The FIR also alleged that he forged a WASC examination result purported to have been issued from Government Day Secondary School, Zaria in June 1988 with centre and candidate examination number 12426/407 which he used to seek election into the state house of assembly on the platform of the PDP.



But the examination result which he claimed belonged to him was later discovered to be that of a female student of the school named Samba Kande.



The prosecuting officer, Inspector David Agie said despite that, the accused went ahead and swore an oath at the Kaduna State High Court, claiming that all the purportedly forged documents in his possession were genuine, thereby committing an offence contrary to section 364, 368 and 164 of the Penal Code.



The accused however pleaded not guilty to all the charges while the defence counsel, Mr. Shehu Uba Soba prayed the court to grant the accused bail from the police custody.



He was later granted bail by magistrate Nasiru in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.



Hearing on the case was adjourned to May 28.

The authenticity of the present Kaduna state law makers certificate should be investigated thoroughly because of clear evidence of non performance and recklessness.
