We Expect Much More From Government And The Reasons Why by kenny0071(m): 10:15pm On Apr 16, 2007
Keep it up but we expect much more!!! {Basic Principles1}
The government has within the past eight years been quite boastful of some of her achievemnts. I find this quite amazing. It is quite difficult for the worst of governments not to do at least one or two good things. (At least petrol was cheaper during the Abacha era).There seems however to be a kind of public foolery as has usually been the case. Nigerians have been fooled and decieved over and over again. We know not whether those in power do this as borne out of a clever response to the apathy and perplexing frustration of the masses(a group quite populous but in no way influential or powerful) or just out of manipulative bewitching and bedevilling. Either way,the public has been made to feel that the government is the Alpha and the Omega of the Nigerian populace.
Our discussions in BasicPrinciples proves this manipulative mislead as untenable and a blow to the Nigerian pride. Yes GSM . Keep it up. How many Nigerians make ten minute calls on a regular basis (or have ever done)? Especially when we consider the reported cost of the Gsm license $285million,one, power outage and costs of generators for these GSM companies and please lets not talk about fuel. It think that is enough.
Yeah the banking consolidation was the bomb. Investment into the stock market jerked up. Professor Soludo is a pro, Banks are taking in more employees but I wonder where all the mopney goes? How far with the lending rates and the encouragement of SMEs as well as the development of entrepreneurship? Bank staff welfare seems high to some others feel they are paid “so much” “so that they do not steal so much more”. Apologies though most of them complain. For some they would rather not want to be waking up around 4am and returning from work at ten.
At least they reduced the size of the unemployed though not much has reduced the ammount of “self employed yahoo boys” or “graduate trainees of Shina Rambo order. 15percent max on your savings, the stock market astonishingly generates far much more.
I sincerely thank God for the lives of Dr Dora Akunyili, Professor Soludo and indeed appreciate people like the intelligent and fluent Emeka Chikelu, the powerful and influential Dr Ngozi Iweala. Mallam El Rufai tried but rendered a lot in Abuja homeless.Who alloted those plots of land to some of these seemingly innocent Nigerians (some would no doubt have been conspiring and guilty)
Well inspite of all these, okay I nearly forgot our debts have been wiped off but hostage taking in the Niger Delta has increased. Baba has done a lot to keep the country together but possibly a lot of reason is being seen in keeping it apart. Resource Control for one.
Lets not look at speeches to know how well we have fared lets take a personal stock, lets look at…, oursleves. When last did a lot of Nigerians receive up to 4 Christmas hampers? When last did you entertain your guest with 2 bottles of Coke? How many people on your street just bought 2 new cars? Think back those days we used to. PAN was working , Michelin was not closing down. The naira to the dollar was not too bad, fuel was Abachaingly cheap but has become Babaingly dear despite several billions spent, expended or diversified. We saw Saddam hanged but with all the EFCC who has been executed.By the way where are Dariye, Tafa and several others/ What a shame!!
How easy is it to send a child to a good schoolwithout fasting non deliberately?
Let me not say anything more. I would just want to make Nigerians recognise some BasicPricinples. Lets just hope we do something about what we usually only think about.
Cheers
