Bedc Must Go Or Change. by Uduakuduakobong(m): 12:09pm On Dec 28, 2018
Why BEDC(Benin Electricity Distribution Company) Must Go.

Firstly, am not really a fan of the President nor APC, but being who I am, I can say from d news flying around and evidences, that the govt have tried a bit in increasing power generation, at least, by 1000MW.

Benin City, the capital of Edo State has been an ancient city that have never enjoyed the best of electricity distribution(not in this govt alone), unlike some other states in this same country.

However, certain areas and surburbs of the city have in d past enjoyed more hours of distribution than most, esp in d past, that was when PHCN and NEPA were in control of the nation's and state's power sector.

Fast forward to 2017-2018, esp, the power situation in Benin city has become laughable. Most streets and regions in the city have been placed in perpetual and continuous darkness, all in d name of poor distribution from Transmission Company or whatever they are called.

Initially, blackouts in certain places in d city were as a result of burnt transformers, vandalism and probably disconnection. As of today, d situation has gotten so worse that even with or without the aforementioned factors, blackout is the main thing.

Reason this people- there are areas in Benin that haven't seen d glow of their electric bulbs for months, weeks, days, etc, depending on the terrain and on the excuse given by distribution company.

To be a littlre bit specific, certain places around First, second and third East circular, do not get to see light btw the hours of 6am-6pm. Meanwhile, there are lots of businesses in these areas, mostly, SME's AND MSE's and even petty traders selling drinks and table water. How should they cope!

Power sharing begun as an option to checkmate weeks of blackout. It was shared thus: 3hrs on/off, 6hrs on/off, 3hrs on/6hrs off; etc. The residents agreed and this trend was maintained for some time. Believe me whwn I say, areas lik Eweka, Omobude, Uwa and co, have been suffering from this power sharing formula. There are days, lik yesterday and even today; where power was neva restored as at when due.

Am actually tired of writing now. If BEDC cannot give us steady power in Benin City, esp in areas where power hasn't been restored for weeks, let them quietly back out. The residents have protested in d past. This tym, jst like d 'talk and do' Governor Obaseki walked their 'Madam' out of his office uninvited, we the residents, will send them backing, self-invited.

BEDC MUST GO, OR CHANGE!
