A 40-year-old cab driver, Godfrey Odifiri, who allegedly drove dangerously resulting in the death of a special marshal appeared in a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja on Friday.

Odifiri, who resides at No 4, Airport Road, Lugbe, Abuja, is charged with dangerous, careless and inconsiderate driving.

The Prosecutor, Fidelis Ogbobe, told the court that Odifiri committed the offence sometime in October in Central Business District, Abuja.

He alleged that one Mabel Yusuf, of Special Marshal Unit 26, CBD, Abuja reported the matter at Central Police Station on Oct.19.

Ogbobe added that the complainant said the defendant was stopped by her and her team during their weekly routine patrol.


She further alleged that she and her colleague, James Adebisi got into the defendant’s car to take him to their office for not having valid documents.

The prosecutor said the defendant drove dangerously and refused to stop until he ran into a tree, thereby causing the death of James Adebisi.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 27 and 29 of the Road Traffic Act.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Jan. 28, 2019 for hearing.

But why would a special marshal jump into a man's car to struggle for steering with him. That's unprofessional and criminal
