So many times the question of whether a revolution can take place in Nigeria has been asked. This has been a disturbing and thought provoking question, as the peculiar nature of Nigeria seems to defy any known theory or postulation on virtually every issue. A revolution can be seen as a drastic and far-reaching change in ways of thinking and behaving, it can also be seen as forcible, pervasive, and often violent change of a social or political order by a sizable segment of a country’s population. Why do people revolt? The major reason why people revolt, is as a result of discomfort and failure of the existing political or economic structures to provide basic necessities of life, turnaround the deplorable conditions of the people and the absence of populist policies. Looking at the theory of utilitarianism and social contract, which states that all men desire happiness which may be defined as the surplus of pleasure over pain. Pleasure and pain are therefore the main springs of human action. Thus the achievement of pleasure over pain demands men to willingly cooperate and obey the laws of the state and the state in return provides them with the necessary things that would ensure their happiness and joy. But when the state recalcitrates, men may deem it fit to withdraw their cooperation and obedience to the state. Which according to Appadorai, happens when the mischief of obedience are greater than the mischief of disobedience.

Do Nigerians still have the moral duty to obey the laws of the state? A state where the life span of humans are no different from that of chickens, a state of utter lawlessness and disorder, a state filled with rancour and strife, a state made for few persons, a state that has virtually failed in providing the basic necessities of life, a state which In the view of Machiavelli, have persons of the upper class who are only interested in the exercise of power and not in the peace and security of the state which common people desired, a state that is gradually turning to a failed state.

Nigeria should have long witnessed a radical revolution, but for the sharp division among the oppressed, high rate of illiteracy absence of consciousness, religiosity and greed, this may never happen. For there to be a successful revolution in Nigeria, there must be mass participation which according to Karl Marx is an essential precondition for the success of a revolution. A mass participation can only happen if there is a large number of conscious citizens, citizens who are conscious of their position or condition, conditions which could be suffering, wailings, poverty, sorrow, angst, misery etc. these conditions are what should unite the people to embark on a radical change of the society. Education is key to reason and in extension consciousness. In the middle ages the outlook and intellect of the people were in an embryonic form, but renaissance changed this. Renaissance was a period of cultural, literary and educational movements in the 14th, 15th and 16th century. It began in Italy and gradually spread to Germany, France, England and other parts of Europe. Renaissance humanists believed it was possible to improve human society through classical education. This education relied on teachings from ancient texts and emphasized a range of disciplines, including poetry, history, rhetoric (rules for writing influential prose or speeches), and moral philosophy.

When would we experience a renaissance in Nigeria? Can it happen with this crop of self centered leaders? During the French revolution “people reached the end point of their patience”. When ordinary men were deprived of day to day necessities and prices of necessary goods were beyond their reach that could not be considered a normal condition. “It was an anarchical situation”. Nigeria is already in an anarchical situation and I ask, when would Nigerians reach the end point of their patience? We are in a precarious and dicey situation, which if immediate corrections are not made, civilisation would be very far from our reach in coming years.

What stop you from championing it yourselves? Biafrans are championing their own. Why not separate the gotddam fuccking country for every one to develop at their pace? Afonjas are drama like women, they will complain complain complain, just to feel the problem but when you tell what to do to solve the problem, they run away.

I think you should start the revolution by protesting in Oyo, Ondo, Osun and ogun . Stay away from markets and any area dominated by non indegenes. Protest for six months only in support of a better Nigeria, we will observe from other parts of Nigeria, when the death toll from unarmed people shot at close range by the arny equals the ones killed in all IPOB protests, we shall begin to take you serious.

that would happen but like I said having a revolution in one region changes nothing, because we are not practicing regionalism.

That was how they stayed quiet while Igbos fought to better Nigeria in 1966 by ridding the country of corrupt politicians, in the end them afons termed it an Igbo coup and killed all igbos in their midst.

Your people behave like chameleon, they will quickly stop the revolution, secretly go and beg the federal government, and even plan on how to attack the protesters in the east.

We know you people very well.

You can only revolt with strong minded people, not with people who will run away shouting 'O pa mi o' at the sound of the first knockout. There are no enlightened people from there, how can you explain a professor of law lining behind a man who cannot convince anyone he wrote WASC? grin
Enlightenment ko, sophisticated ni grin
