Yes, the govt of Shagari was corrupt and something needed to have been done then to curb the problem.

Shagari himself was not corrupt; however, he was weak and could not call his lieutenants to order; that was why Buhari accordingly refused to single him out and personalise the blame to him alone but to the collective of the 2nd Republic regime.

That undemocratic act by Buhari punctuated the progress of democracy. It went unabated till 1999.And ,Nigeria is still reeling from that daze. When he took reins of government, he plunged the country into recession-he would do that again after about 30,yrs.
This man is a failure of history.And those who queued and voted for him should be ashamed of themselves for the making.of such history.

Buhari has no right to says he ousted Shagari, he did not - Buhari was not part of the original coup plotters and actors, he was simply rewarded with the head of state position due to some selection policy... after the coup!

It was the same lame duck attitude that had him removed by the original plotters when his turn came!
