ELECTRICITY DISCONNECTION IN ZARIA BY KADUNA ELECTRIC; A NEGATIVE EFFECT OF PRIVATISATION.

Privatisation, a capitalist ideology that symbolises government withdrawal or minimal participation in economic activities. It is a deliberate policy by the government to stimulate economic growth and efficiency. When a public owned enterprise is privatised, contorl, management, decision-making and ownership is often fully transferred to the private sector.
The electricity distribution in Nigeria undergone a series of privatisation. NEPA was privatised to PHCN. The major reason for the privatisation was due to bad management, and also to increase efficiency and private sector participation in economic activities.

Electricity is now a private good, it's distributed based on free market price mechanism. Those who want to pay the market price for it will have it, and those who cant pay the price will be excluded.
This made kaduna electric, a company that enjoyed a monopoly of electricity distribution in some part of the country to disconnect some people in zaria from the use of its merchandise. This lead to some form of disrupt of economic activities in the metropolis. The distruption is also followed by increament of tariffs without prior notice.

Electricity is supposed to be a necessity. A common social commodity in which each citizen is entitled to. For me, commercialisation will be much more effectible than privatisation.
