The Need To Know About Your Profession. An advice to under/graduate of accounting by RexEmmyGee: 8:30am On Jan 03, 2019
This is for the accounting students(graduates and undergraduates), there's this notion that: oh! That there's nothing special or unique about the profession and that anybody irrespective of the course of study can be accountant, which is a blatant lie(except for those who had undergone the 4 years required minimum study) and to butress this delusion they'd say after all they're many non accounting students working in banks(yes that's true). The thing is what in particular do they do? Majority of them if not all only works as a cashier and just punches figure into the system and ensuring that there isn't any shortages, as they've been instructed to do. But does accounting in itself stop at that point? Let's quickly recall the real definition of accounting as defined by AAA(American Accounting Association) 1941 and ACIPA(American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). We could infer that it is not just about recording or identifying the figures, but also the ability to summarize, analyse, and interpret them for managements decision making, which I can bet that not all if not none of them can do it.
The point is that don't be discouraged by them, put in your best, make sure you know and learn more about the profession and the intricate/intricacy, be able to read meanings to facts and figures, be able to interpret financial statements at this stage(yes it's not easy but not impossible to know). That's what will make you and I better than the the non accountants and it will be impossible for them to substitute us no matter what.
As for those who would be coming into 300 level please be ready because that's where you'd get to learn the reality of the profession, don't be troubled or dismayed by what your predecessors are saying(yes it's difficult, indeed it is) just be positive and fine tune your heart to enjoying it, be positive no matter what, learn it not just because of the A(though very important) but because knowing it will make you better than the A grade, and as for those who seem to have gone past the level, please refer back to it and make sure you're better at it.
Stop feeling you won't make good with the career, after all why have you chosen to study it?
The truth is nothing is ever easy(Good or otherwise)
