The most popular frontend coding languages include HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Java, PHP, Python, .Net are some of the languages used on the backend. One thing for sure is that you cannot create anything meaning without mastering some of these languages. Some programming languages are definitely more versatile than the others. JavaScript seems to be the most popular language for frontend development.

FACEBOOK: Many languages are used in Facebook but the major language for Facebook is PHP. Java, JavaScript, Python and C++ are also used in several other areas.

INSTAGRAM: Instagram is mostly written in Python. Specifically Instagram is not written in a single language. In the backend, we have: Django ( python framework – nginx web server in assistance), Celery, Redis & Cassandra, RabbitMQ, PostgreSql, Amazon s3 – for storing images, NodeJS – for Push notifications. Instagram uses Ubuntu Linux 11.04 as their operational system.
