Season greetings to you all, it’s my pleasure to share with you today another piece of information which I believed you might need as an importer from China’s Market this period.
As you may know, over the years I have been known for providing supports, helping mini importers to grow their business, My previous posts was all about, sourcing for goods on Chinese stations like 1688,taobao etc, Getting to know how to make payment to your suppliers and so on. But today I want to drop some words of advice for those who may have plans to import from china this period due to the Holidays that’s on the way and What you can do to keep your supply chain running smoothly when one of the world’s largest Markets shuts down for nearly a month Due to the Chinese New year (CNY)?

Chinese New Year 2019 Timeline

Notice that this is a rough timeline. Ultimately, it depends on the suppliers’ schedule. Most Chinese will be on vacation from Feb 1-10, but below is the timeline, so put it in mind so as not to put yourself in tight corner

• January 21: Some suppliers and subcontractors stop production, causing disruption in the supply chain
• January 28: Many workers have already left the factories. Sales reps, engineers and management may still be around for a couple of days more.
• February 4: All personnel has left the factory
• February 5: Chinese New Year’s Eve
• February 10: Employees, mostly sales reps and some engineers, start to come back. Some may have extended holidays.
• February 15: Most employees, including assembly line workers, are back in the factories.
• March 2: Operations are getting back to normal after the Post-Chinese New year (CNY) disruption.

How to avoid severe delays due to the Chinese New Year
it’s about time to explain how Chinese New Year may affect your importation business, to prevent delays and quality issues you should

Place your orders in time: Counting on tight schedules is never wise, so make sure that you confirm when your supplier halts production.

Avoid placing last minute orders from January 25 Never place orders at this time, as the goods will most likely not ship on time from sellers which may in turn not be ship to Nigeria on time because of the rush in Airlines/shippers.

Not make deposit payments prior to the Chinese New Year Many suppliers that are about to go out of business, tend to close down permanently at the time of the Chinese New Year. Further, once they start production again, you should not take for granted that they will process your order faster simply because you paid the deposit before Chinese New Year...Interestingly, the CNY holiday is also considered a prime time to switch jobs, and many workers don’t return to work at all. This can lead to even longer production times as factories struggle to find new workers and ramp up on production orders.

So my advice for you is that you should avoid importation this period if you fall into the categories of Custom Orders, Branding, Goods that needs to be Produced according to specification and most likely If you are planning to customize items either for political use or whatever and also take note that your orders need to ship prior to CNY Holidays so and don’t forget to plan for inventory needed to get you through the holiday.
