Moral Decadence In The Society And The Need For Change by ChiaYakua0707(m): 10:06am On Jan 12, 2019
Society, which is supposed to be the bedrock of our morals has through the activities of some of her pioneers has become the pioneer of amoral behaviors. The repeated tales of the victory of evil over good, immorality over morality has left most of her members treading the path that leads to chaos and doom.
Man since fall has come under the reign of terror, severe injustice and sheer wickedness. The moral values and societal norms that promotes morality and good conduct has been relegated through the years to the bar ground or reduced to mere lessons for children; and since no one wants to be addressed as such, morality is almost becoming a thing of the past.Take for instance, we were taught as children to greet our elders, abstain from premarital sex, have respect and dignity for human life, suppress greed, be nice and good to everyone around us and in this light many other virtues were taught. Years has come and gone, and here we're adults. As it seems, once grown, most adults see no need to keep to the teachings and practices that was inculcated in them. Suddenly, keeping late night becomes normal, drinking to stupor allowed, killing of innocent lives and even babies seems legalised. All these leaves us to wonder if, it's prohibition was only for children, or, that as children, we're taught the standards of society with the hope that we grow into adulthood equipped with these virtues for a better and more effective world?
Their is a need for change--change from the lure by riches into committing attrusities and inhumane acts against humanity; change from the greed to acquire and hoard power, wealth and relevance for selfish reasons; change from the desire to dominant, rule, to the need to lead.
Society renew its commitment today and calls on her children. First, to religious leaders, to teach the people morality not on the basis of majority but on the grounds of right reasoning. That where faith is abiding reasoning should and vice versa.
To the religious, your beliefs and doctrines are of no use to those of other creed; what is of use to them is the right application. If your religion teaches peace. Learn to live in peace, if it teaches love live out the love and accept those of other religion.
To civil authorities, unite the people on the basis of nationality. Provide enabling environment that promotes creativity and discourages crime not just by stiff punishments but by tackling the causes militating against laws and order.
Collectively, let us as Nigerians think of the Republic we're and work to grow personally and as a unit.
God bless Nigeria
