The Senator representing Kaduna Central District at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has described the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government’s order that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen should immediately vacate his office, as a ‘political assault on the sacred temple of justice.’

This was his reaction to the plan by the President Muhammadu Buhari government to arraign the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Monday over charges on failures to declare his assets as required by law and for operating Bank Domiciliary Foreign Currency Accounts.

The charges against Justice Onnoghen were filed and served on him last Friday at his official residence in Abuja preparatory for his appearance at the tribunal.

But reacting, Shehu Sani, while condemning the FG decision, said the move against the CJN should be resisted and rescinded.

He tweeted, “The move against the CJN onnoghen is a political assault on the sacred temple of justice; it should be resisted and rescinded.

“The government has moved in the crane to the Court in order to remove a Bench from the roof.

“This amount to throwing a bolt on the runway of our democracy and peace.”

All these opposition people without sense. There is a process that must be followed before any erring officer can be removed. His matter was petitioned by an (arguably) independent body for failing to declare his assets properly. He admits to his "oversight" and has not cried foul but is waiting to face the CCT.

So stop crying more than the bereaved and let him carry his cross; if he stupidly played into the hands of the FG it's his cup of tea.

I believe Reno and FFK and writing their own but I don't expect anything else - I am even expecting something preposterous from the latter.

So a man who violated a simple rule is expected to hold the highest office of those who are supposed to administer justice and uphold the law?

I am not saying he should be dropped but he should fave trial and explain.

It's not about the Judiciary vs FG.

If we use your analogy then it will be hypocritical of Buhari to still be on that seat

Is this kind of opposition that will make democracy grow in nigeria. The CJN admit to flouting the law when he is the custodian of the law.should FG advice him to continue .opposition is not madness. Let cjn step aside and allow the law to take its course

So we should all turn a blind eye and let an erring man walk free simply because we think it is a move by the FG?

Besides, before the trial go reach anywhere the elections would have come and gone.

Make we allow others comment.

This petition is dated 7th January, 2019.

The chairman received it on the 9th of January, 2019.

Are you telling me the CCT received a petition in less than 3days, they investigated and decided to arraign? Just within 3 days!

Something is fishy.

This is just a ploy to install someone who can dance to some persons tune.

The CJN is about to be tactically forced to resign.

The trial is politically motivated and we the same people will fight to stop it.

Buhari educational qualifications has always placed a moral burden on his Presidency but he has refused to resign because he wants Power at all cost.

We can't stand by and watch the CJN go down because the Judiciary is our last hope against the the threat of this dark Lord
