Twelve people have lost their lives after a trailer conveying bags of rice rammed into a bus and skidded off into a market in Iworoko, Ekiti state.

The trailer is said to have experienced brake failure.

The incident which happened Saturday night led to the destruction of some shops in the market.

About four shops were affected in total, however, there is no record of how much worth of property and goods were damaged.

Community members said they engaged private emergency rescue operatives to evacuate bodies of victims.

Expressing dissatisfaction at the response time of the State Traffic Management Agency, the members of the community said more lives could have been saved if the agency did not only show up after over twelve hours of the incident.

We gathered that the residents chased the traffic management team away this morning in protest of the delayed response.
