Bankole Ignores Uproar Over Obasanjo’s Allegations ! by wales(m): 6:08am On Aug 12, 2010
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, yesterday brushed aside attempts by his colleagues to question allegations made by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, that federal lawmakers are corrupt.

At an event in Niger State last week, Mr Obasanjo accused the lawmakers of high level corruption during his years as president, detailing how he failed to know their true earnings and how legislators often stuffed federal budgets, without request from the executive arm of government. He said the constituency projects which members carry out, is a “conduit pipe for corruption.” At the chamber’s reconvening yesterday, for the approval of the Independent National Electoral Commission extra budget, Mohammed Maifata, from Kano state, said his privilege as a member was breached by Mr Obasanjo’s comments. He prayed the House to decide collectively to institute legal action against the former president if there was no retraction in two weeks, failure which he will proceed on a individual litigation. “One man called Olusegun Obasanjo cannot just begin to make allegations and call people thieves,” he said.

Some members, though willing to share with the criticism, opposed Mr. Maifata’s style of referring to the former president. Mr Bankole urged his colleagues to recall the essence of the emergency session, and leave other issues. “I appeal to you to leave the issue because of the very pressing assignemnet that we have to deal with,” he said. But another member, Igo Aguma, who represents Port Harcourt, Rivers state, insisted that even where the issue is to be allowed, the leadership should make clear position on the truth about the much-criticized consitutency projects. Mr Bankole clarified that projects are only influenced by the members, but are often carried out through the office of the Millenium Development Goals.

a case of pot calling kettle black.

wales:

Mr Obasanjo accused the lawmakers of high level corruption during his years as president,

He was there for EIGHT years, he's only realizing now how corrupt the lawmakers are. That's what d/mb ar5es want to hear, so he can continue telling them.

wales:

detailing how he failed to know their true earnings and how legislators often stuffed federal budgets, without request from the executive arm of government.

And he always claimed he was in control.

wales:

He said the constituency projects which members carry out, is a “conduit pipe for corruption.”

It was not a secret when he was at the helm of affairs.

Why would people let OBJ's personality becloud their senses as to see the truth in what he said about the rogues in the National Assembly of Thieves?

Wasn't OBJ correct about the high level curroption in the N/A? Please lets discuss the issues and leave the personality of OBJ out of it!

What everybody is saying is that he was at the helm of affairs, created and used EFCC to chase his political enemies and now he's seeing their corruption.

The problem with us nigerians is that we just behave like mumu that is why the politicians take us for a ride. especially with mindsets like the quoted post.

The house of assembly members will claim they have not seen policemen collecting bribe. "If you have evidence present if and we will deal with the person" that is their statement. But when they are out of government and fall out with the next government in power, thereby being denied of their special privileges that's when they will start making statements how corrupt the police is.

Re: Bankole Ignores Uproar Over Obasanjo’s Allegations ! by egu(m): 2:54pm On Aug 14, 2010
OBJ`s allegations against the National Assembly is true. The fact is,they have denied being corrupt. The speaker of the House of Representative had used every opportunity to deny the allegation, but due to their lifestyles,Nigerians believed they are as guilty as charged.
If I were Bankole, the best thing to do is to stop verbally convincing Nigerians to believe me but to pass the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill. This will go a long way in vindicating him if he feels his hands have not been soiled. But will The Speaker take up this challenged?

What in the world is obasanjo talking about when he is the king of the corrupted? oops, maybe he will transform after a few more billions is transfered into his private swiz account. Bankole, IBB, obasanjo and the so called law makers are birds of the same feathers. They are all rogues turn politicians, men of many words. they do not walk the talks. And we should also remember what hubbard once said that "All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted".
Re: Bankole Ignores Uproar Over Obasanjo’s Allegations ! by favouredjb(f): 6:22pm On Aug 19, 2010
OBJ is right, everything baba said about the law makers is true, just that he doesnt have any moral justification to say this things, cos he's a very corrupt man himself
