[The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Federal Government, And the police plan to keep and arraign the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal
The Cjn would have been picked today by the police and kept in their custody by obtaining a post dated warrant, this embarrassment would have forced the judicial council to force onnoghen to drop his position but the plan was busted when the CJN himself did not turn up. and a federal high court restraint the federal government and the police to maintain a status quo.

Ruling on two separate ex parte applications on Monday, Justice N.E Maha, ordered parties to maintain status quo till January 17.

He ruled in the two different suits that the defendants should be served with all the papers filed and they should appear in court at the next hearing.

One of the two suits marked FHC/ABJ/CS/27/2019 was filed by incorporated ‎trustees of the Centre for Justice and Peace Initiative.

Those joined as defendants in the suit, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, the Chairman of CCT, Danladi Umar; the National Judicial Council, the Inspector-General of Police, ‎Mr. Ibrahim Idris, and the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Lawyers on Monday condemned in strong terms the comments made by President Muhammadu Buhari that the rule of law will take second stage on issues involving alleged threat to national security.
In various interviews with PREMIUM TIMES, the lawyers described Mr Buhari’s August 26 address to members of the Nigeria Bar Association as a descent to dictatorship and a sad development.

“Rule of Law must be subject to the supremacy of the nation’s security and national interest.“Our apex court has had cause to adopt a position on this issue in this regard and it is now a matter of judicial recognition that; where national security and public interest are threatened or there is a likelihood of their being threatened, the individual rights of those allegedly responsible must take second place, in favour of the greater good of society,” Mr Buhari said.

In America where we copied democracy from, such is not the case, we just practice things backward. The judiciary is so corrupt from top to bottom, but we still expect them to investigate themselves, no wonder we have many judges on trial for corruption.
