For those of us who love to explore,here is what it takes to get you traveling to a popular holiday destination Iceland. This country is located in the North Atlantic ocean with abundant natural phenomena such as northern lights and midnight summer. Explore this city,with this step by step guild on how to acquire an Iceland visa (Schengen visa).with this, all that is left is to book your flight ticket and plan your trip

Nigerian passport holder do require a short-term visa ( visitor Visa) for Iceland. Please take Note, Iceland don’t have an embassy here in Nigeria. But since is a Schengen state, the Royal Norwegian embassy handles visa application on behalf of Iceland.you follow the same procedure used when applying for a Norway Visa. Remember all visa applications must be made at VFS Global in Abuja or lagos. And always apply for your visitor visa at least 30 days before your departure date.

Don’t forget to check your eligibility before starting the application process and submit your application in time before your flight departure date.
This process applies to Nigerian passport holders only.

Types of visas

Short-term visa: this is perfect for those who want to go to Iceland for a holiday.

Single-entry visa: this type will only allow you to enter the country once.your are not permitted to enter again. This visa is valid for 90 days within six months.

Double entry visa: with this you enter the country twice. The maximum number of days is 90 days.and each visit must not exceed 90 days.

Multiple-entry visa: you may enter the country as many times as you like. There are one,three and five-year multiple-entry visas Each visit allows you to stay in Iceland for 90days!

Visa processing time frame

The current time frame for an Iceland visa application is four weeks from the date you submitted it at VFS Global either in Abuja or lagos. The embassy will let you know if your visa application has been granted or not within 15 days of receiving your application.

Visa collection

You will be notified either by email,sms,letter or telephone call when your application has been processed.once your application has been approved,you can collect it at VFS visa application center where you applied.A sticker will be placed in your passport.is then your responsibility to make sure that the duration of your stay is correctly stated on the sticker.

Visa cost

Schengen visa ( short-term) Adult

€60(N24,560)

Schengen visa (short-term) child between 6-12 years of age €35

(N14,326

Credit or debit card card needed to pay for this application fee!

VFS Global’s Additional Services will assist you with the online payment if you do not have credit or debit card at the cost of N4000.

VFS Service Charge

VFS Service charge 12600 naira

Mandatory courier fee(fee charged for couriering documents to Accra) N7050 Total at N19650

Mind you that the VFS Global service charge is a mandatory courier fee.

This service charge and courier fee must be paid in a bank implanted inside the VFS Global center

To sum it up:

You will have to make two payments

1. Visa application fee ( debit/credit card only) – N24,560

2. VFS service charge and mandatory courier fee( cash only)-N19650

In total,the Iceland visa application will cost N44,210

NOTE: The visa application fee is according to the current exchange rate.it is subject to change without notice,the visa application fee is non-refundable.

Iceland visa requirements

Before doing the submittion of your passport and other documents,you are required to register your application online through the Norwegian Directorate of immigration’s Application portal.once you have registered,you will receive confirmation by email with a cover letter attached.

In addition,the following documents are required:

Fee receipt and cover letter from APN (Application portal Norway)one passport -size photo ( no older than three months,white background,35 x 45mm)

Passport- issued within the last 10 years with a validity that exceeds the end of your stay by at least three months. Your passport must have at least two blank pages for visa stamps.

Previous passport if a new passport has been issued within the past three years

Completed questionnaires( found on the tourist visa checklist) 1x copy of personal documentation ( ID,birth certificate)

Documents confirming civil status (e.g.single, married, divorced,widow)

If you are self- employed,provide a business registration certificate

If you are employed,provide your employer’s letter with details such as your position in the company,leave duration,etc.

Proof of financial means- original bank statements( company or individual) of the last three months

Travel medical insurance- covering the entire period of intended stay,valid for all Schengen states and covering an expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons,urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during your stay (minimum coverage of €30,000)

Use the tourist checklist and Questionnaire to help you ensure that you have all the required documents.
