In what appears to be a show of superior intelligence, the Labour Party candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the upcoming election, Amb. Charles Nzechi has in a debate on Tuesday in Umuahia carpeted the PDP candidate, Hon. Sam Onuigbo and his APGA counterpart MacDonald Uba.

In the debate monitored by ABN TV, Amb. Nzechi, popularly known as PASS (People And Society Sake) marshaled out his plans for the federal constituency if elected. He said that his philanthropic gestures which he has over the years embarked upon through Charles Nzechi Foundation stands him out among other candidates. He said he has touched the lives of his constituents, empowered them and made a meaningful impact in their lives.

He added that his PASS slogan is devoted to the service of the people through massive empowerment, infrastructure development and welfare package for all members of the constituency. He said the equity charter which was agreed upon among the clans favours him, since his can has never produced a House of Representatives member.

Macdonald Uba,the candidate of All progressive grand alliance (APGA) said the situation in his constituency is regrettable and that is why he is out to represent his people. He also said that he is not a politician but a military man by training but fit to do the job.

He also said in his party’s manifesto, they have what is called the anchores and they includes industrilization, Agriculture and agro industry, trade and commerce,energy,sports and youth empowerment.He also added that these ancors has enablers such as security.

The peoples democratic candidate Sam Onuigbo gave the reason why he should be reelected. He said he has been able to facilitate so many projects that have had impact on the people and he said he will remain effective. He also mentioned skills acquisition project which he said made the people of Umuahia federal constituency demand for his relection. He said he will continue to run what he called EAR (effectiveness , accessibility and responsiveness)

Answering questions on agriculture, Sam, said if reelected, there will additional sensitization in the Agricultural sector and he will do more than he has to enhance the access roads for farmers. He also said is this is avenue for employment and job opportunities.

Responding to question regarding the agrarian culture of the people in Ikwano/Umuahia federal constituency,Nzechi said if elected, he will bring in world class research standard for the federal university of agriculture.

Mac Donald Uba responded that there is a need to revitilise the cocoa sector for value export and employment and he will move for a bill that will allow creation of industries. He however said he is against special centres in school examination system.

The candidates were however allowed to rebut. Sam Onuigbo on his part said the APGA candidate did not get his fact correct as regards the bridge which collapse and rebuit by him.He also claimed that he has done very well.

Charles rebutted that Sam Onuigbo of the PDP was not nominated by the people but his party Nominated him.

On the question of zoning and rotation, Charles said zoning was discussed and agreed on, he claimed that it is the turn of Ohuhu according to the arrangement.

Sam of the PDP however disagreed with the said zoning formular as claimed by the Labour Party’s candidate Charles Nzechi saying there is no video recording as claimed by Nzechi.

MacDonald however said on rotation, he wasnt in the picture and that he is not aware of it because his people have not produced any member for representation and do not agree with the two other contestants.

Charles of the labour party also claimed that the candidates of the PDP and APGA are aware of the zoning arrangement of the constituency. He said when he is elected, he will set a company that will be managed by the people and he will engage the youths positively instead of giving then 5000 naira handout as empowerment.

The high point of the debate was the disagreement on zoning formular as claimed by Nzechi to be in existence. However the debate was done maturedly and ended in a peaceful note.
