Reacting to the recent defection of not less than 5,796 members of PDP and other parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gudu and Tangaza local governments of Sokoto state, the APC state leader said he is satisfied by the development, Tribune report.

He added that the recent defection is an indication that the state belonged to the current opposition party after the defection of incumbent Governor Aminu Tambuwal to PDP in 2018.

He said: "As far as the seven local governments in the state we have so far visited, it is so far, so good. We are extremely elated with the popularity of the party and its wide acceptance by the entire people of the state. ”We will consolidate on the gains achieved during my two tenures as governor of the state between 2007 and 2015." In the same vein, the chairman of the APC campaign council and its director-general, Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi and Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman respectively challenged the Governor Tambuwal-led PDP government to showcase its achievements in the last four years.

They also celebrated the defection of Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji, the former secretary of PDP in Tanzaga. According to them, the defection of the PDP bigwig is suggestive of the fact that PDP will suffer defeat in the forthcoming 2019 general elections in the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the deputy governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto had reportedly resigned. Ahmed is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and he was expected to contest against his former boss, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who might fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the gubernatorial poll in 2019 elections
