What many supporters of the current travails of Onnoghen seem to miss the point of the critics of the FG in this matter. The issue is not whether Onnoghen is guilty or not (that's for the courts to decide), it's about PROCEDURE.

(i) the constitution is very clear on the steps to remove a chief justice.

(ii) the court of appeal is clear that the NJC must first investigate a judge before he is prosecuted. Some judges have passed through that process Eg justice Fishim of the industrial court now facing trial for collecting bribes.

(iii) the NJC has a procedure where the CJN will step down as chairman when a case on him is brought before it. So arguing that Onnoghen will chair an investigation on himself is bunkum.

(iv) of course, the speed with which all of this is happening when other courts cases are travelling at snail speed is suspect. What exactly is soo special to warrant the speed with which the CJN is being tried? Importantly, vital PROCEDURE is being breeched in the speed to prosecute him. No court will uphold his removal cause the constitution is being breeched. The FG is setting its case to fail.

(v) those who support this breech of process should remember that today its the CJN, tomorrow it could be law enforcement officers that will arrest them and breech procedures in a bid to fight crimes. I hope them they will not complain given the precedent set.
