The Government of Nigeria has ordered three jets at a cost of 150 million dollars. Three jets? I would have though that Nigerians need that money more than any other person. Or Nigeria could have donated the money to Kenya, where our politicians want a bigger paycheck. But then this is nothing new in Africa. We want to match the President of the United States. Better still, the egos of our leaders dictate that they must have more or bigger than the other presidents.

That is why King Mswati of Swaziland is driven around in one of a very few Maybach car on the planet. He, too. has a jet and gets to marry a new virgin every year, who then end up sleeping with his ministers. And Swaziland is one of the poorest countries in the wiorld.

I think it is unfair for the Government of Nigeria to buy even one jet at this time. It sends the wrong message. It is not the kind of image Jonathan should create for himself. And it is a bad example to the rest of Africa
