Another example Motorola.. most if not all of Moto phones are running on the Android One platform but Motorola added a few stuffs like fancy gestures, shake phone to turn on torch and other few tweaks that are not available on other android one devices..

It's not Nokia that sends the updates, it's Google and this is because the rom in Nokia phones is android one.
Even non android one phones can get updates if the manufacturer decides to send OTA updates.

Every phones manufacturers have engineers that get most of these android softwares from Google, they work on it and push to their phones. Only phone companies like tecno, infinix etc that are new and have not gotten to thag level of updating android software prefer to settle for phones that doesn't have the capacity to get update because those phones are just for a short period of time. They need to make money until they get to that level where they can be producing phones that would be to stand software update.

Undertand that the android software is a business from Google that Google sell to phone manufacturers. So, it's not Google that push to any phone, it his the phone manufacturers. All Google does is to sell it to any company that want it, then its left for the company to tweak and align it to work on their device.

Thanks, my main aim was the 3.4 but after seeing the 5.3 reviews here I've decided to go for the 5.3 but It's not on Jumia, the slot website says 50k which I'm suspicious of, anyone knows the price of the 5.3?

Understand say them dey talk about "Android One" project in particular, moreover android is open source(practically free) Google doesn't sell it to any phone manufacturers (hence why you have so many companies using android) On the android one part Google collaborates with phone manufacturers and those phones will receive 2 years android updates and another extra year of security updates. Infinix Hot 2 received 2 full android update back then.
Those other brands you mentioned they have their skins they don't use the stock version android Google drops they add their own features first before rolling out.

If a device isn't android one or pixel, Google has no business with sending updates; then it's up to the manufacturer of to decide if the phone deserves updates or the user can hustle to find custom ROM if they're available. This is why it's flagship phones that get upgraded regularly but one thing with Android one is that your upgrades is guaranteed for the next 2 years
