1. Job Title: Berthing Master
Job Responsibilities:
This position encompasses the following roles:
• Berthing Master: Safe and efficient mooring of all vessels, including meeting and directing them to the appropriate berths (using VHF radio), Collection of mooring fees and passenger landing fees afloat, using handheld devices
Job Description
o Being on a Rota as the first point of contact in case of emergencies & Rota preparation
o Provide berth allocation and undertake the administrative tasks for both visitor and resident Marina customers.
o Conduct a weekly inspection (by boat) of the Harbour’s limits of jurisdiction
o Carry out a weekly check to ensure all Notices to Mariners displayed in the Harbour Office foyer are relevant and current
o General upkeep and policing of the General Directions, annual moorings and dinghy park
o Recording of all incidents on incident report forms
o Weekly boat count (annual mooring license holders’ vessels) and Weekly accounts
o General maintenance, including refit of Harbour vessels and upkeep of Harbour property
o Cleaning of the slipways and Town Quay steps
o After passing suitable assessment, operate the crane in a safe manner, and instruct in its use
o Assist with the berthing of large pleasure ships on the pier as required
o Assist in the allocation of annual mooring licenses
o Assist with the administration of the rallies booking procedure
o Attend Harbour Health & Safety meetings in the Deputy Harbour Master’s absence (as required)
o Reporting defects and health and safety issues to the Harbour Master
o Undertake Jetty Office Duties in the Boatyard - providing a professional and competent customer service.
o Providing services consistent in line with the organisation.



Job Requirement:
o The incoming candidate will be expected to complete duties as described in the relevant ISO 9001 work instructions and associated risk assessments.
o Excellent communication skills are needed, as you will provide a service
o General knowledge and familiarity of Boatyards coupled with general administrative experience.
o Knowledge of harbour is advantageous, as is possession of a VHF Operators license
