Dere Otubu holds a Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Economics from the Houston Baptist University (1983) as well as a Masters Degree in Accounting from Houston Baptist University (1985).

He is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School, Columbia Business School as well as the INSEAD Business School. He was born into the Otubu royal family of the Ohenhen Kingdom in Oghara, Ethiope Local Government Area of Delta State and is the son of Baba Aladura Godfrey Otubu.


At the start of the consolidation era in Nigerian banking in 2004, Dere Otubu served as Non-Executive Director at Access Bank, a position he held until his retirement in 2016.

He also served as the Chairman of Staco Insurance, before going to serve as founder and Chairman of Senforce Insurance Brokers. He is also listed as a founding director of the Eko Distribution Company.

Dere Otubu is an elder in the Cherubim and Seraphim movement in Nigeria and is also a member of Nigeria's Polo Club, the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, and the Ikoyi Club. He has also served at the Delta Football Association.

He is married to Mrs. Egbe Otubu and has four children.

Dere Otubu currently serves as a director at Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Chairman, Elektron Petroleum Energy and Mining and has served as a former Chairman, Staco Insurance as well as Senforce Insurance Brokers
