Breaking: Confusion Over Who Presides At NJC Meeting by kahal29: 12:27pm On Jan 29, 2019
The emergency meeting of the National Judicial Council (NJC) did not take off on a smooth note Tuesday morning as there was confusion over who convened the meeting and who should preside, TheCable understands.

The meeting was called via a message sent on Sunday by Soji Oye, the NJC director of information, who apologised for the short notice.

It was to start at 10am inside the NJC conference room.

As previously reported by TheCable, neither Walter Onnoghen, the suspended chief justice of Nigeria, nor Ibrahim Muhammad, the man appointed to act in his position, will attend the NJC meeting which was called to resolve the leadership crisis in the judicial arm.

Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who is currently the third most senior justice at the supreme court, is not a member of NJC but was invited by the secretary, Ahmad Gambo Saleh.

Rhodes-Vivour was immediately ushered out politely when he entered the conference room.

In the absence of both Onnoghen and Muhammad, the council is expected to elect a chairman pro tempore to preside over the meeting.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as more facts emerge.

Nigeria Media is our major problem, walahi!

The NJC decided that neither Onnoghen nor Tanko would attend today's meeting so as to be fair to all concerned. The law allows the NJC to appoint someone from among them (chairman pro tempore) to preside over the meeting when the Chairman or the Deputy are not available. Instead of you guys to report the right thing, you decided to be mischievous, why?

Imagine if this was a PDP government; Tinubu, Oshiomhole, Osinbajo would have matched to the streets chanting solidarity songs. Bunch of hypocrites.

AHMED GAMBO SALEH IS TRYING TO SCUTTLE THE MEETING

they rejoice for they say they have conquered the security agencies and can get them to do anything, they rejoice for they say they have conquered the INEC, they rejoice for they say they have conquered the judiciary, our last hope! They rejoice for they say they now knock on the door of our last symbol of democracy, the Parliament

The CEOs of all levels of Nigeria Judiciary are now from same State(Bauchi), same ethnic group(Fulani) and same Islamic denomination(Sunni), viz:

1. CJN - Tanko (he doubles as head of Sharia judicial system in Nigeria)
2. President, Court of Appeal - Bulkachuwa
3. Chief Judge, Federal High Court - Kafarati
4.Director General for the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria-Aliyu Bagudu Abubakar

NOTES:
1. The CCT Chairman who "ordered" PMB to remove the first ever CJN to hail from the Old Eastern Region is also a Fulani Muslim.
2. Attorney-General & Minister of Justice is also a Fulani Muslim
3. EFCC Chairman is also a Fulani Muslim
4. Fulani Muslims also head the other two arms of Federal Govt (Executive and Legislature)
4. The Fulani (who arrived Nigeria from Futa Jalon in 1804) make up less than 5% of Nigeria's population

A far-reaching decision is not likely today, from all indications. There are much issues to deliberate upon on the Onnoghen matter alone that may make the meeting protract beyond one sitting of today. The NJC would not like to make a hasty decision that would be another subject matter of controversial constitutional debate. Justice Ayo Salami issue comes to mind.
