Kim Jong-un has demanded North Koreans hand over their faeces to government officials amid fears the country faces a fertiliser crisis.






The desperate measure is said to have been imposed to provide farmers with cheap manure in a bid to kickstart the Hermit Kingdom’s declining economy.

Kim, 35, has ordered citizens to hand over 100kg of human waste every day, RadioFreeAsia reports.

And anyone who fails to meet the quota must instead provide 300kg of compost, it has been claimed.

The entire nation has been “mobilised” to produce manure as the “first major task of the year,” a government insider revealed.

Korea University professor Nam Sung-wook told The Korea Times in August: "North Korea's repeated failure year after year to achieve its crop production goal shows that the country does not have the economic conditions to maximize productions.

“For example, North Korea cannot produce (enough amount of) chemical fertilizers because they are made out of refined crude oil.

"North Korea's crude oil imports have been under sanctions since last year.

"The development of the general economy and the introduction of private farms to give incentives are necessary to increase food production," he added.
