The presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar; and his running mate, Peter Obi, made some claims during their outing on The Candidates, a forum sponsored by the McArthur Foundation and aired by the NTA in collaboration with Daria Media on Wednesday.

The following are some of the candidates’ claims and the facts of the matter:

Claim: Peter Obi claimed that when PDP was handing over in 2015, the nation’s GDP growth rate was 6% and that it is currently at 2%.

2Baba, Teni, M.I Out With New Hit to Encourage Nigerians Vote Responsibly

In anticipation of the general elections on February 16, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rallied together with some Nigerian artist to deliver a brand new single titled, “Not For Sale”, to encourage Nigerians to vote responsibly.

The new hit was led by 2Baba, who opens the song with some stern words of warning and ties the artists together with his democratic chorus.

“Not For Sale” also features M.I., Teni the Entertainer, Chidinma, Waje, Umar M Shareef and Cobhams Asuquo, who also produced the track.

Elections: NBC Set to Sanction Four TV Stations Over Hate Speech

The Federal Government on Wednesday warned broadcast stations in the country against picking results of the forthcoming elections from the social media.

It said the Independent National Electoral commission remained the only official source of election results.

The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Is’haq Kawu, gave the warning on behalf of the Federal Government at a press briefing in Abuja.

Transparency International Concerned About Militarisation of 2019 Elections

Advocacy group, Transparency International (TI) on Wednesday expressed concern over the militarisation of the 2019 general elections by the Federal Government.

The organisation advised that the action should be dropped to enhance the credibility of the electoral process.

TI reiterated that its concerns were based largely on the roles played by various security personnel in the off-cycle elections held in 2018 and the desperation shown by some politicians, who wanted to be elected by all means.

2019: INEC Insists APC Will not Field Candidate In Zamfara

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not field candidates for the elections in Zamfara state.

INEC made its position know while reacting to two contradictory court judgments on the issue.

In the last one week, there have been two different court pronouncements on Zamafara, while a High Court in Zamafara favoured the inclusion of the party, an Abuja High Court ruled in favour of the commission omitting the party from the contesting.
