When To Use Ovaboost - a short story by Gabriel411: 2:00pm On Feb 01, 2019
THE MAN WATCHED, with fulfillment, as the merry crowd sat under the canopies. He looked with a smile at his wife who cupped, in her arms, their child; a soft bundle of feminine beauty and talcum. He recalled her nights of agony and days of sadness. Nights when she would refuse to sleep, praying, her voice hoarse, for a child. Days when she would awake – her face smeared with crusts of tears and mucus – and reply the neighbours, “I am fine,” when they ask.
In those days, awash with sadness, he would seek the counsels of pharmacists, doctors, pastors, friends, in-laws. Sometimes, his wife tagged along. But many times, she was too weak, too broken to come. On one of his visits to a pharmacy, he heard a sales rep run through an exposition of a drug. Called it Ovaboost. Said it was a dietary supplement that enhanced egg quality and ovarian function for women trying to get pregnant.
“You see,” the sales rep said, “women often go through many factors that have the tendency to affect the quality of their eggs and fertility. Factors like stress. Hasn’t it been said that men are the head and women the neck? That is why women are often stressed...because of the load of the head,” he laughed. Others laughed too. Then, he went further to talk about poor diet, hormonal imbalance, age, and how they deplete the function of the ovaries.
“Low quality eggs are like bad seeds. They are less likely to be fertilized, less likely to be implanted in the womb successfully. And this is where Ovaboost comes in,” he quipped, as he shared a flier to everyone.
The man fixed his gaze on the components of the drug and read how Vitamin E, grape seed extract and alpha lipoic acid help protect egg cells from the damaging effects of free radicals; how Coenzyme Q10 fuels successful cell division and implantation; and how myo-inositol improves insulin sensitivity which helps to promote ovarian function and cycle regularity especially in women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome – a hormonal disorder where a woman has enlarged ovaries with little swellings at the outer edges. So he got the drug, headed straight for home, and handed it to his wife who took it religiously as advised by the sales rep – four capsules each day at bedtime.
Months later, after having a prolonged fatigue and nausea that wouldn’t abate with self-prescribed antimalarial drugs, she went to the hospital where she was told that her womb now cradled life.
