2019 Election: NYSC Calls For Adequate Security for Corps Members

Theresa Arokoyo, the state coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Niger state, has called on stakeholders to provide adequate security for corps members in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

Theresa made this call during a forum with stakeholders in Minna on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

Quoting Arokoyo, Head of Public Relations of NYSC, Mrs. Favour Albert urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Department of the State Services, DSS, and the Police to prioritise the security of corps members during and after elections.

Election: Soyinka Says Neither Buhari Nor Atiku Will Get His Vote

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has stated that both President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are worthy of rejection and he will not be voting for either in the forthcoming election on the 16th.

Speaking on Thursday at a press conference, tagged: “Civic Choice in a Time of Judicial Penkelemes,” held in Lagos, the literary giant said, “I, Wole Soyinka will not be voting for either of the two so-called contestants. I find both of them worthy of absolute rejection.

“For a number of reasons, I will not go into that and I am not interested in comparative assessment, it is too late for that.”

Court Stops FUTA VC from Disbursing Earned Allowances

The National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, has dragged the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, (FUTA), Prof Adeola Fuwape before an Akure National Industrial Court(NIC) over alleged illegal disbursement and misappropriation of Earned Allowances to undeserving staff without recourse to 2009 federal government/Unions Agreement.

The presiding Judge, Justice Abiola Adewemimo has therefore granted an exparte order, restraining the management of FUTA from spending or disbursing the third tranche of the earned allowance released by the federal government pending the determination of the case.

Lawyer to NAAT, FUTA branch, Iyiola Afolabi had prayed the court to grant the interim injunction to enable plaintiffs to put the University, Non Academic Staff Union(NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) on notice over the litigation.

FCTA, Indian Group Partner To Build Varsity Tech In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to partner with the Nigerian University of Technology and Management Project group to build a university of technology and management in the FCT.

Speaking while receiving the executive of the group, led by the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, in his office in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello, said the project is in furtherance of the plan of the FCT Administration to have specialized institutions in phases 4 and 5 of the territory.

He noted that Abuja has matured in terms of population and infrastructure, and said the FCT Administration would give the group the support to ensure that the project commenced as quickly as possible.

Court Adjourns Suit Seeking Buhari’s Disqualification from Presidential Election

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday adjourned the hearing on a suit seeking for the disqualification of President Muhammadu Buhari from the February 16 presidential election on grounds of lying regarding his educational qualification and certificates in his Form CF 001 submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Ahmed Mohammed fixed February 7, 2019, as the new date following a request by the plaintiffs’ counsel for time to respond to the second defendant’s counter-affidavit served on him yesterday evening.
