The strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU seem to have no end in sight, as meeting between the striking university lecturers and the Federal Government on Friday was deadlocked.

Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment while addressing newsmen after a closed-door meeting with the union in Abuja said the meeting was protracted.
He said, “The meeting was protracted, but the good news is that we have gotten to the end of the tunnel. We met them halfway and we have finished the gray areas and on the issue of N50 billion, we have offered what we have. We do not have N50 billion and we cannot do N50 billion, but we have offered them something reasonable. So they have to take it back, and go and present to their members”.

Ngige, however, expressed hope that students would return to school soon, saying “We will know when they will go back by Thursday”.

Earlier, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President said the meeting had been adjourned to February 7.

“So, far on the level of progress made so far, I cannot tell you that now until I tell my members. It is the feedback of the last meeting we came to present to government today. But right now, we have a new set of information that we have to go and present to our members. Until we tell our members, we cannot tell you,” he said.
Ogunyemi noted that progress had been made on the ongoing negotiations.

He added that “We are making[url=http://redirect.viglink.com/?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_154909823194214&key=c7a018f99a67aaac33a35421e795cdf3&libId=jrn92uqg010008oe000DA6n0vr929&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.earlyface.com.ng%2Flatest-gists-in-town%2Ffg-tells-ASUU-it-is-not-ready-to-meet-its-demands-ask-them-2-bulge-or-forget-it%2Fmsg153071%2F%23new&v=1&out=https%3A%2F%2Fnewscentral24..com%2F2019%2F02%2Ffg-tells-ASUU-it-is-not-ready-to-meet.html&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.earlyface.com.ng%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Dforum&title=FG%20Tells%20ASUU%20It%20Is%20Not%20Ready%20To%20Meet%20Its%20Demands%2C%20Ask%20Them%202%20Bulge%20Or%20Forget%20It&txt=READ%20MORE]Read More[/url]

ASUU is no longer relevant in our university system. Their only negotiation strategy - strike - is no longer effective because the whole world is fast becoming a global village where the practice in one continent rivals that of the next continent.
Let them go study Harvard and the likes to see how they are funded yearly and stop disturbing the govt.
